Lakers Bench
The Lakers are winning and have a very good team but why did the Lakers trade two very good players that could help the Lakers. They are Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance for nothing substantial. Two young players that could have added depth and good fundamental skill set to this team. This team could use more talent because high usage of Lebron and AD could cause problems. Thanks Majic for making some good draft picks in the beginning of your tenure but your impatience caused the team to have a weak bench. How can the Lakers correct this?

Trading those guys away made room for ad and LeBron. You should be thanking magicthomas1897 wrote:The Lakers are winning and have a very good team but why did the Lakers trade two very good players that could help the Lakers. Re: Lakers Bench
That trade was the key in creating the financial flexibility to get Lebron and AD. Arguably the best trade in recent Lakers history and the best trade in the entire nba that season.
I mean, guess you can complain about that trade if youād rather not have Lebron and AD. With that said, this might be the worst thread Iāve seen on this board in years.

Most fans aren't aware on how the cap or the CBA works. The type of trade proposals in trade threads across any NBA team shows that.dockingsched wrote:That trade was the key in creating the financial flexibility to get Lebron and AD. That being said , CBA is hard to understand and cap can be tricky but people should understand the basics of a salary cap.

Re: Lakers Bench
All that, and Clarkson and Nance are basically KCP and Kuzma, at best, anyway... I don't see them adding much or even getting that much PT on this team.

Re: Lakers Bench
Lakers could use Clarkson.
He'd be the second player to actually be able to break down a defense with his ball handling outside of LeBron.
One of the reasons why I wish we kept Lance on a minimum.

But he's an abysmal outside shooter... And he hasn't been good over-all this season. I'm not really sure he's a whole lot better than Caruso at breaking down defenses either.
I'd take him over Daniels maybe, but everyone above him is more valuable IMO...

Did you watch the Cavs vs GSW in 2017? He looked like a horny goat out there, very anxious to make plays, not taking his time and turning the ball over.Dr Aki wrote:Lakers could use Clarkson.

I don't anticipate that changing much even with maturity. Like Westbrook. The decision-making won't be there just because he's older against tougher defensive teams IMO

I think you gotta think about it in terms of skill sets and where the Lakers are deficient. As of right now, there is no guard really capable of generating their own offense.
The way I see it playing out is in the playoffs, teams will double LeBron, cut off AD, and force Rondo/KCP/Green/Bradley/Caruso to generate offence.
Without a proper slashing threat, that's how we're going to be gameplanned against and that's why having Clarkson is better than having Quinn/Cousins/Daniels.
Clarkson, Patty Mills, Derrick Rose, not the best options, but imo within trading distance of a Cook/Cousins/Daniels package.

Re: Lakers Bench
The cap space that signed Lebron James could have been done differently without giving away players for nothing in return. Also AD came with a trade which netted the Lakers a very good talented player. Let's look at the Celtics' Danny Ainge doesn't let players go for nothing he is always acquiring assets for the present and the future. Laker fans should remember the management has invested the future to win now. This team has a chance; however is the bench strong enough to endure the entire season and playoffs with the personnel this team has. Load management can be problematic to Lebron and or AD can this team win consistent without AD or Lebron. Injuries can prevent the Lakers from reaching their goal the championship for 2020. A very good bench with players who have the talent to make up the difference when a star player is injured or a DNP is critical.

Re: Lakers Bench
Monday-GMing. easier said than done. Morey who's a top gm tried to sign Nene to a deal to use him as a trade and found out he couldn't. The CBA is complex and so is capology. There's a lot of stipulations in place that the fans probably don't know ofthomas1897 wrote:The cap space that signed Lebron James could have been done differently without giving away players for nothing in return. Re: Lakers Bench
The real reason the Lakers don't have a bench isn't because of the trades. The real reason is the Lakers tried to go big game hunting with kawhi Leonard and as days passed , notable free agents came off the board. That's really it.
If they never went after kawhi, it's possible they could have gotten more quality guys but going after kawhi is worth the gamble.

Re: Lakers Bench
Wow.... the ghost of Clarkson has appeared. He's the first ghost of controversial players of Lakers past. Who's next.... Smush Parker and Devean George.
