I don't think it's impossible for Ayton to become a good 3PT shooter. But it's very hard to project something like that. Some really good midrange shooters become good 3PT shooters (Towns), while some never do (DeRozan).

I think he can too, but Towns shoots nearly 42% from 3. I don't see Ayton getting to that. Towns might be the best 3 pt shooting true big of all time, at least with high volume. That's a tall order rom Ayton. If Ayton can get to 35% I'd be pretty happy, and like 37-38% I'd be really happy.

He plays it as if he was a guard, step back 3s etc...
Impressive.

He also plays absolutely no defense whatsoever which si why his team SUCKS. If your inside guy isnt even showing his hands or bending the knees on D, its basically a layup line.

That's why I don't want him or DLo on Suns. All of the best buddies play no defense.

He’s also one of the most durable star players in the league. Played all 82 games his first 3 years and 77 games last season.

On a roster in which players drop dead (figuratively) every other game, that’s pretty important.

Oh so we're already at this portion of the Ayton ride where local radio is putting up trade polls about him from Simmons pods. Fun

“He might be the league-leader in … shortest amount of time between ball hitting fingertips and ball being shot towards the rim,” Lowe said. “All that dude wants to do is shoot mid-range jumpers. He catches the ball at 18 feet, and it’s like, I don’t even blink and the ball is already at the basket.

He’s going to be one of these centers who’s 7-1 and giant and shoots two free throws per game, because all he wants to do is shoot mid-range jumpers.”

- Zach Lowe on DeAndre Ayton.

Lowe isn’t a typical ESPN hack either, he defends Booker often whenever folks on there bash him.

Is it? 2.7fta per game last season. 1fta so far this season in almost 60min of court time.

It's hardly a stretch to think he'll never be in the elite or even above average when it comes to getting to the line

Not to mention Lowe isn’t just some kind of hater. He had good things to say about Ayton last season.

Yeah, that was a lot of people's complaint about last year. I have worried about a lot of things, and I do think he should get to the line more, but that's simply about being more aggressive inside, which I've wanted..a little bit of a mean streak. I have also mentioned that people might not be as quick to foul him because he's a good FT shooter.

I care much more about screening and defense. If he scores a good number of points on very high efficiency I'm not THAT concerned with how much he gets to the line.

Lol right. Simmons is such a homer clown. I can just imagine that one of those trade scenarios he has involved us giving Ayton to Boston for scraps. :-?

This is legit criticism of DeAndre Ayton BUT I will say in his defense that if DeAndre Ayton develops into a guy who consistently knocks down that shot it will open up driving lanes for him - which should become the next part of his offensive arsenal. Joel Embidd gets to the line a ton mainly because of his ability put the ball on the floor (not because of post ups).

If anything it's discouraging to see that DeAndre Ayton already looks like an automatic 20ppg guy while still have some obvious holes in his offensive game.

Any timeline on how long Ayton will be out for? Ankle injuries can be tricky.

I'd rather trade Booker for a scorer who also plays defense.

Anyone get the feeling we blow it up in the offseason?

I don't think his assessment is far off.

It's because he can't handle the ball to create offense for himself. Look at how Anthony Davis, KAT, Embiid, Joker etc. literally every top flight center in the game handles the ball and can put it on the floor to score, or create something for their teammates. Ayton can't do that. That's my biggest concern for him. Eventually I think he'll get a 3 ball. But he needs to be able to do something with the ball to take over the game.
