I've always liked McCaw's game because I love watching guys like him who are excellent defensive players, team first guys with high BBIQ. Yes, he is currently a very weak offensive player but even on that side of the court, you can see his IQ and awareness as he is always trying to make cuts or find people making cuts. The things he tries to do are good plays but he doesn't have good finish and looks for his teammates more than himself.

He is in the same vein as a lot of guys that frequently get underappreciated on this forum because their box scores and measurables do not reflect their true value. Fred, Marc and McCaw, all guys I love for similar reasons and Nurse seems to too. He is definitely a tradeable and expendable piece on our roster, but I like that Nurse is trying to get him integrated into the lineup after all the injuries and time off he has had.

Nurse has such a luxury with the number of serviceable guards on the roster. We have 3 guys who all deserve to start (Kyle, Fred, Norm) and 3 guys who all deserve to play significant rotation minutes (TD2, McCaw, Thomas). It is unfortunate that there are going to be at least 4 guys a night who will be getting fewer minutes than they deserve but that is a good problem to have. I'm sure Nurse is loving the flexibility and ability to matchup and play different schemes when everyone is healthy and integrated into their roles.

it is not. people believing Patrick is actually good, good defensively, solid, not bad, a hard worker, or any combination thereof, is diametrically one of the biggest finesse jobs we've seen in the 21st century. McCaw has almost everyone fooled. but dont be fooled. he trash.

Read on Twitter

Plus he was good on Beal the first half. What more can we ask for a guy who's like 7-8 player on roster.

He had maybe one or two good defensive possessions against Beal tonight, but otherwise Beal pretty much had his way with him.

Now granted, it's Beal, and he wasn't piss poor defensively, but he isn't the lock down defender some are making him out to be.

He's average, if not a tiny notch above average.

You were saying?

If y'all don't think Patrick McCaw did his job filling in tonight, you have no clue about basketball.

This was a scrimmage.

I will admit that on the surface as I watch the game, and look at the stats, I question why he is playing so much.

But I also realize, that Nick Nurse is playing him for reasons I probably cannot fully appreciate... and he knows a lot more than me, and just maybe the posters here. For now NN certainly has earned the benefit of the doubt in situations like this.

I think he's a fine role player, but Nurse just overvalues him. I also think his defense looks visually better than it actually is, I really think Beal's stats would've been worse if Nurse had RHJ guarding him.

Again, no hate or anger toward McCaw from me but I'd rather see him limited to a 15-20 minute per night role while the team is battling through these injuries and then relegated back to a minimal role if/when everyone is healthy.

Hope he proves us doubters wrong.

Wth McCaw it seems Nurse has a policy that says being able to shoot the three is better than being able to make the three. RHJ's D and motor is vastly superior to the slight McCaw and really how many more threes is McCaw making than Davis. McCaw is a cog player at best at this point. Nurse is playing him over Davis as well and someone decided to pay him 4 mil. Sunk cost fallacy.

With a fully healthy team would he be in my playoff rotation? Hell no.
