I don’t see the hard capped, 5-23 warriors going all in on an expiring gallo.

Me neither. They need to cut $6 million to dip under the lux tax. Which is something I expect them to do. Moving Looney could get them there. But, they might want to keep him. I would expect them to move on from Cully-Stein, Burks, Glenn Robinson and Chriss.

The Warriors are going to be able to pair DLo with a possibly #1 pick and their big 3 of Curry, Thompson, & Green.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Warriors would be interested in moving Green in a deal either.

Would you do Gallo for Winslow/Waiters and 2 2nd round picks? (then we buy out Dion Waiters because I don't want to see him in a Thunder uniform again). Not sure I would do it, thinking about a deal that could be good for both sides.

Miami could use Gallo but they can't trade any FRP. Winslow has some value but don't think he's worth a first, while Waiters is clearly terrible.

Miami can actually trade a FRP. The Thunder would just have to be involved. Since the pick turns unprotected in 2026. They could in theory trade that one back to Miami and then Miami could send its unprotected picks in 23 and 25, or 24 and 26. But, I would think the Thunder want that 23 pick.

Here is how the pick stands now: Miami's 1st round pick to Oklahoma City (via L.A. Clippers) protected for selections 1-14 in 2023, 1-14 in 2024 and 1-14 in 2025 and unprotected in 2026.

I think the Thunder would hang on to Waiters and re-develops from trade value out of him for next years deadline.

Think there is any potential for a deal based upon a swap of cp3 for Hordford? I know that the first thought is “why does philly need a pg if they have simmons?” My thought is, why does philly need two centers in the lineup when they have Embiid. I think there could be potential for something there.

I see zero chance for that. So we have different novel ideas that the other does not see.

The trades GMs actually do will be mostly or entirely be less bold. And almost certainly less frequent than they probably should do.

This isn’t the year for contending teams to be conservative. The league is as wide open as it’s been in a long time.

"Mostly" allows for exceptions.

Westbrook for Chris Paul was bold but probably isn't going to end up with major achievement. Other more creative / insightful trades might do better. Rockets bench is fairly weak. Probably should have tried some sort of 3 for 1 (or 4 for 2) Paul trade.

Oh, I stand by my estimate of zero chance on your Horford - Paul trade idea. They went for Horford because that is how they want to play. No sign that has changed.

I agree GMs should be bold but still expect most won't be. In part because most other GMs ask for unreasonable returns to cooperate with someone else's bold idea. There might be an exception or two. Or not.


I do also think Gallinari to Golden State is “creative / insightful” given the way they want to play and market the team. Not necessarily the first or best option but an option that hadn't been mentioned.

How many times has a player on a supermax been traded? Twice and it was the same trade. There isn’t much of a history to go back and reference and what type of value or creativity will make a deal work. I’m not going to assign a percentage on the likelihood of any trade happening . even the deals that make the most sense don’t usually materialize. It’s unlikely Paul gets moved for Horford but I think the deal could make sense for both sides. I stand by that.
