He was good in the short stint with us. I couldn’t figure out why EFG cut him loose.

He's better than IT and Ish Smith, unless there's something wrong with his character.

I've heard no suggestion that he's a problem. At the same time, I've never understood why he's not in the league. His G League numbers have been outstanding this year.

Will he got a real shot here or is he just a body? Also, who gets cut when the time comes?

Re: G League, Gary Payton II close to a contract with Wiz
His per-36 numbers last season suggest he's the greatest player who ever lived.
Per 36, he averaged 25 points on a .688 TS%, with 9 assists, 4.5 boards, 6.8 steals, 2.3 blocks and only 2.4 turnovers. The guy is a defensive terror!
It's worth mentioning that the sample size of 16 minutes isn't exactly reliable.

I'm a little confused why we are adding a PG. Even if IT is suspended, we have Justin Robinson to back up Ish. And Brown can handle some PG minutes if necessary.
Isn't there a half-decent PF available?

Maybe they're looking for a real, solid backup PG option---which Troy Brown Jr. isn't---and aren't sold on Justin Robinson (I know i'm not).
I liked Chiozza, he was scrappy and seemed like he could hit the open three, but maybe he was just too ordinary as a facilitator for their liking. If I remember correctly, Payton II had a really high steal % out of college, so maybe he brings scoring and better defending on the perimeter.

They gave Robinson a guaranteed deal. They considered him so important that they kept him on the roster our 4th PG at the start of the season while keeping only 2 PF's and 3 C's.
After all that, now they're going to pass over him and sign Payton even though IT is out for just 2 games? And they are doing so at a time when we have literally no natural PF on the roster and only Mahinmi as a serviceable center? It doesn't make sense.

Agreed. Though maybe it makes sense if they actually have in mind to keep Payton. OTOH, I hope he can play some PF too...
I suppose the plus is that we'll be seeing a lot of Admiral, which we need to do.

There's that defense I was talking about. He's having a killer game.
I'd much rather find another potential gem that brings a unique quality currently lacking on the roster, than simply bring in bodies that you know won't be stealing significant minutes from Hachimura, Bertans, or Bryant when they're healthy.
Perimeter defense has been an issue for a long time now even with both Wall and Beal in the starting lineup, so I support the signing of a player like GPII. Would be another great signing by Tommy Sheppard if GPII continued this type of play.
He's really impacted the game tonight.

GPII is a good defender and this team lacks defenders.

Payton II with an impressive performance in his first game as a member of the Wizards.
Signed today, no practice with the team. 10 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals and +13. His 34 minutes were 2nd highest on the team after Beal.

Well. He did have the advantage of not having Brooks’ coaching. That advantage will dissipate as the team gets some days to train.

Looked great out there. I even think he has the potential to be the next Gary Payton.
