In other news Uncle Dennis and Kawhi are two of the biggest sleeve balls in history. Kawhi is not going to come off smelling like perfume here.

14.5 points in 23 minutes while shooting decent. He's never really progressed or regressed.... He is what he is. I would have parted with Cook and either Daniels or Caruso for him.

I knew Giannis shooting lights out against us was a fluke. Dude is 0-3 from 3 today.

So.... the Clipps go into the Utah and get their butts handed to them. Leonard with a -23 in the game. Clarkson with 19 off the bench for Utah. He's a fairly one dimensional player but he fills a need on that team.

were we stupid to trade Pau and Odom for CP3? what a stupid decision in hindsight

another thing i never understood was, why did Stern nix the trade when he always said he wishes it was the "Lakers v the Lakers" in the finals? He should have been all over any trade that would have made us even better (at that time we thought).

He needs to be higher, I voted like crazy.
It's a travesty if he doesn't make it for the fans vote at least.

Well the legend requires a look back at context for his decision.

Well the legend requires a look back at context for Stern's decision.
First you have to keep in mind the NBA back drop. They were in the middle of negotiations with players regarding the ability of players of forming super teams. Second, the New Orleans Hornets were owned by the NBA, meaning that all the owners had a say in team decisions for the Hornets. Obviously this created a conflict of interest because what is good for one team is bad for another so as an owner you don’t want to vote when is good for NO but is bad for your primary team and vice a verse.

So the solution that Stern came up with was that he would wear 2 hats. One to represent the NBA and the other to represent the owners but in order to avoid the conflict of interest he would leave trade decisions up to the NO GM. As Stern put it in the press conferences about it, the Hornets GM would have full autonomy over trades.

The irony here is that when this decision was made by Stern, Phil Jackson called out Stern because Phil believed that Stern was lying and would get involved in trades anyway. The NBA fined Phil an ungodly amount of money for saying that.

Fast forward about 8 months at around the time the trade went down:
The league and the players finally agreed to terms in how to deal with the super team issues. A new players bargaining agreement is ratified by the owners and players representatives in New York city. On the same day, the trade is leaked to the press (Thursday). It is agreed between the Hornets and the Lakers officials that the trade is done and all they need is the paperwork.

Coach Popovich (the chief complainer about the Gasol trade to the Lakers from Memphis that created a super team), Mark Cuban (who thinks that if the CP3 trade goes through it will create a new super team and the Mavs will never win a championship), and the Cavaliers owner (who is still peeved that Lebron took his talent to South Beach to create a super team) cornered Stern and Silver after an owners/NBA meeting in NY and convince Stern to step in and reject the trade because it is obvious that LA is gonna become another super team and they had just finished ratifying the new bargaining agreement that would prevent super teams from forming.

Stern folded under pressure and used his hat as representing the owners to nixed the trade the following day (Friday). His only explanation for him getting involved after he said he wouldn’t to avoid the conflict of interest is that he did it for basketball reasons. By Saturday evening the Clippers/Hornets trade was leaked. by 4 pm ET Sunday the that trade was officially completed.

The Mavs won their Championship, The Spurs beat The Lakers over the next decade and Cleveland got 3 number one picks in a row.

Oh btw, as an NBA commissioner (Sterns’ other hat) he was not allowed to interfere in trades between teams.
