Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
Hornets are pick 13, 1/2 game out of a tie that worst case scenario is pick 17.
Pick seventeen. That's worse than our Kemba team picks.
Hornets are 2.5 back of the 7 seed.
It's likely we miss the playoffs but we have done serious damage to our hopes of a franchise player through this draft.

Per tankathon, Hornets have the 6th hardest schedule remaining.

I think the 10 game losing streak is coming, would be shocked if we are still the 8th seed in January

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
At this point, I don't think we should care about tanking. The top 3 is really the sweet spot. If you aren't tanking to top 3, then it's really not a big deal where you end up. And this draft isn't looking very deep anyway. I'm just enjoying seeing the guys doing well.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

I would say with the flatter odds you want to be in the bottom 10 and ideally in the bottom #8. #10 gets you 16.9% for top 4 and #8 gets you 26%. Outside the bottom 10 is lower than 10%. At the current spot (13) its 4.8% for top 4 and 1.0% for #1 so it's unlikely you move up.

Agreed. I honestly don't know what the point of signing Rozier was. Even in a best case scenario, (1) we aren't going to be better the next two years than we were the several years before this season (which prompted us to rebuild in the first place), and (2) he overperforms and then we either have to pay him a ton of money or we get to go find yet another PG right as we exit our rebuild.
If he's helping us win, it's counter productive to have brought him in to kick off a rebuild. If he doesn't, what is the point of the salary obligation.
I don't get why he's here.

I agree with this.
If they were to trade him soon and get some halfway decent value I think that would make it a good move in hindsight, but they probably need to be trying to trade him asap since its pretty likely his numbers won't ever look any better than they do now.

could definitely see us starting to fall in the standings. we're really not that good
we've got the 13th worst record but we're...
8th worst in offense efficiency
7th worst in defense efficiency
6th worst in rebound rate
6th worst in point differential
and we've faced the the 2nd easiest schedule in the league

Its also why I'm extra defensive about JB this year. We're playing FAR above expectations and he's squeezing the best out of multiple positions.
Doesn't mean we're 'good'. Doesn't even mean our core players are set.

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
I love what I’ve seen from this team from Devonte, PJ and Monk the most. I think we are figuring out who we can build with and who is fodder. I think the losses are coming too when you look at how many of our wins were clutch and to what teams. We only play Detroit one more time too and they account for 3 of our wins lol.
There are some really bad teams out there though. I hope NOP and GSW make a run as well as Atlanta so we have a chance to finish below them still.
The good news is if we did land a top three pick, we can probably be a playoff team a lot sooner than any of us thought.
As for the Terry stuff, it made no sense to bring him here. I don’t even like watching him play.

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
I hope Mitch is looking at N'Faly Dante. Other than Wiseman he's the only other big I would take in the lottery. The other guys either aren't big enough like Okongwu or they lack athleticism like Carey.

I didn’t think he was playing yet because he didn’t register at school in time?

He was just cleared to play earlier this week.

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
The 3 is the logical place to upgrade after center; I'm high on Deni Avdija if he's there. If not I want Obi Toppin. The indications are we are going to pursue Drummond, so it's possible we aren't going to look at center in the 1st round.

Re: 2020 Draft Discussion
The 2 and 5 are easily our biggest holes. Ill continue to have incredible confidence in Bridges at the 3 and PJ at the 4, no matter what analytics say about Bridges. Keep feeding him minutes and let him keep learning.

Fair enough, but sometimes it helps to draft someone to push someone else too. Plus it seems like Rozier and Graham are set as the starting guards with Monk coming off the bench. Also, Martin can guard multiple positions. I’m just not sure center is being pursued by the front office in this draft.

I like Obi Toppin a little more than Avdija mostly because I know what I'm getting and I like our strategy of avoiding busts/projects. I just like his all around game. He's the whole package: physicality, shooting, posting, breaking, passing/facilitation. He plays very aggressive yet heady. He will turn 22 before the draft. Mitch loves experience. Toppin is more NBA-ready than most prospects.
He should be around when we pick 8-13. I'd grab him without thinking twice.
3 sophomore lotto picks in a row, plus upper classmen in the 2nd round (Devonte' + Martin)?
What do you think?
He's not a sexy pick but he will make an impact from day 1.
