(he didn't provide a source). Any truth to this matter?
Vendetta appeared on the Fan 590 radio station yesterday and informed the Toronto radio station listeners that the Blue Jays reportedly made Gerrit Cole a $300 million dollar offer in an attempt to lure the free agent north of the border.
“I heard from a reliable source, a very reliable source, someone that knows the front office, that’s involved in the running of the team,” said Vendetta. “They offered $300 million dollars to Gerrit Cole to become a Toronto Blue Jay.”

Source is Vendetta, so prob not.

I didn't understand why we wanted EE, since he's strictly a DH now. The plan that was evolving was to rotate regular position players through the DH spot as a form of workload management, and I think it's a good one. We have multiple guys who can play 1B if the team wants Shaw to be that day's LH DH. Otherwise, we have Gurriel, Hernandez, Guerrero Jr, etc, who can be the day's RH DH. In my view, what we need most is a decent centre fielder, one who can provide good D since we're going to be folding in a lot of high end pitching over the next few years and young pitchers benefit by having good defenders behind them, certainly at SS and 2B and CF. Strength down centre.

Totally agree. Hence why we’ll never sign a limited player like castellanos long term.
But for one year, ya I think Edwin made sense.
I don’t see much upside in tellez, so why not use the spot to provide a veteran anchor for our young hitters.

I think they were bluffing to get Shaw to sign his offer. Same with the Price rumour.

Yeah I’m thinking those were back up plans being considered. Leaked to get top options.
I’m hoping jays make one more move, and really hoping it’s a consistent bat like Castellanos... I’d like the rotation to stay fluid enough to see what we’ve got in young arms throughout the year.
I know our rotation isn’t great. But with ryu then so back end rotation starters that will eat innings and take up starts there won’t be a lot of opportunities for many young pitchers to get a fair look even with injuries imo

Would actually prefer a proper OF (ideally a CF) and possibly a quality late inning reliever

I agree that CF is probably next on the want list. Shogo Akiyama makes an awful lot of sense to me at the moment, assuming the bidding isn't crazy.

**** your asterisk.

Agreed, its time for jays to get a player who isn't feast or famine, can get on base, and Shogo profiles as that. Tired of our outfield, of Hernandez, Randal G, Derek Fisher of either hitting hr or striking out.

Re: 2019-20 Offseason Thread
Looking at the offseason and the reason why homegrown cores have a shelf life - The Boston Globe
• Before they signed Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Blue Jays did have internal conversations about the possibility of trading for David Price. The willingness to discuss Price before signing Ryu to a four-year, $80 million deal points to the financial flexibility that Toronto anticipates over the coming three to four years, with a strong positional core that includes Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Cavan Biggio.
• The Sox were interested in bringing back Travis Shaw before he signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Jays. But the Sox weren’t prepared to make Shaw an offer without first moving salary via trade, so the corner infielder went elsewhere in the division.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Jays end up with one of Castellanos, Ozuna, or Puig. Markets for those guys may not be that big. Ozuna will be tough since he has a qualifying offer, but the other two will just cost money.

Urena DFA makes us in search for a backup shorstop or Espinal.

We're not touching anyone with a QO this year.
