How close are you?
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Way too close for comfort; there's a major one that keeps coming/going against a town that's about 10 minutes drive from us. Pretty surreal experience, we have to be used to/prepared for fires around where we live but this is pretty crazy. We should be okay- our plan is to just get the hell out of dodge at the first sign of it coming any closer towards us.

I worry about the general state of mental health for my community, we've had fires around us for weeks now; it's extremely stressful and the levels of anxiety for everyone seem through the roof.

For reference, I'm right down the bottom part of the state below the fires about 12 or so hours drive away and the smoke is **** here too. Hang in there you unrelatedly filthy and soulless NSW peeps.

Really hope this is solved quickly without anymore physical damage or mental strain. It sounds like a terrifying and absolutely draining experience.

I remember the first time I saw this footage of a family escaping the Paradise wildfire:

The thing that shocked me the most was that this was in the middle of the day. It's so dark that you think it's the middle of the night, but that's just the smoke from the fire darkening the sky. You realize this once they escape the forest at the very end of the video.

It's hard to understand distances in Australia. My mother keeps calling me from Greece worried because she hears in the news about bushfires in Australia, and I have to explain to her it's like me worrying about her being close to bushfires in Sweden.

Im from Minneapolis but my sister bought me and my girlfriend tickets to the timberwolves/bucks game as well as a hotel for the night.

What are some good restaurants in the area we could go to before the game? What about a bar to grab a drink at after the game?

Thanks, Merry Christmas.

Depends on what you like to eat.

What is your age group/preferred bar scene?

I like to eat everything. My go-to's in Minneapolis include Pho, Wings and Indian and I try to stay away from "American" unless it is very good. Realistically no cap on the cost of the meal but I don't need to spend over $100 on the both of us.

I enjoy going to a bar with a good tap or whiskey selection. Nothing dancey [no clubs] preferred.

I am 27 and my girlfriend is 24 and we are looking more for a quiet night out where we can share each others company [She is out of town for the 2 weeks leading up to this trip visiting family in another country].

My favorite is the Smack Shack, but that's more a Sat/Sun morning getaway brunch spot IMO.

When I was a teen in study hall I got busted laughing reading Dan Jenkins novels. Didn't drink back then, but this was my first description of how to kill a hangover and it's stuck with me for 20 years. It's from his novel Rude Behavior:

First, Tommy Earl said, you hit the hangover with scrambled eggs and a double order of Owens patty sausage. Follow that up with biscuits and cream gravy. Three biscuits, large bowl. Keep the sorry son of a bitch - the hangover - off balance with an enchilada omelette, side of corned beef hash, and a waffle with maple syrup. Drink several glasses of milk - real milk, not that 1 percent piss for heart patients. Lay in as many cups of coffee as you can hold. Throw about four Advil at it for good measure. Then while it deals with all that, let it worry about the possibility of getting hit with more biscuits and gravy while you smoke half a pack of Winstons.

"Teach the motherf***** a lesson he won't forget today".

It seems impossible and irreparable damaging to your body. I don't even smoke. But I still want to try it some morning.

Are there any brave souls here who want to give this a shot, maybe in a month or two. WHO'S COMING WITH ME?

Not me. I always feel worse on a hangover after I eat. Just starts the **** over.

I'm in on the half pack of smokes though.

For those who are going to start getting more active for their New Year's resolution, Dick's is having a clearance sale. Just grabbed some New Balance runners for $30 off.

It's amazing to watch Liverpool. 35 match unbeaten run. Undefeated this year with only one draw.

But like with the Bucks, you're still holding your breath that they don't break down at the least opportune time.

It would be a shame if they just happened to slip up at some point.

Luckily for Pool there is no playoffs for the prem. They are so far ahead that it's basically done.
