Re: 2019-2020 College/Draft thread (Part 1)
We need shooting in a shooters league. Trade for DLo if possible or put RJ at SF and get a shooter to start at SG if we're gonna draft L.Ball.

Problem is that the 3 best in this draft have huge concerns. But if we're in position to get Ball (at #1, trade down) its the correct choice to make. His floor is former roy Carter-Williams with Penny level similarities. I'm not crazy about him because of his family history but the kids talented and the Knicks need a legit PG! Does he fit with RJ? I think so because RJ is better in the open court and Ball can push the pace and set him up. Not to mention finding Mitch for lobs.
I’m starting to lean towards Ball as well, just due to the fact that I’ve been unimpressed by other prospects and he would at least be exciting to watch because he’s flashy. But the glaring fit issue with the players mentioned is that LaMelo and RJ can’t shoot very well. (Mitch too) And I am skeptical of their ability to improve much due to their “unique” shooting forms.
RJ is shooting 31% from 3 as a rookie, pretty poor but it’s enough to give you hope that with some work he could make it creep up a percentage or two to an almost respectable number, at least enough to keep a defense honest. But I don’t see him ever becoming a great shooter. I’m thinking poor man’s Dwyane Wade is probably going to be his ceiling and he’s got a ways to go to get there because his midrange game isn’t great either and he even occasionally struggles to finish at the rim. And then he shoots an abysmal 55% from the line. LaMelo is shooting 25% from 3 on 6.7 attempts per game. Meanwhile their overall FG% RJ is shooting 39% from the field and LaMelo is at 37.5%.
Even in a scenario where you put two elite shooters at SG and at PF (hypothetically lets say we sign Joe Harris and bring back Morris at the 4 and he keeps shooting over 40% from 3) I’m not sure if that would be enough to cover for them. And then we should consider that Randle (another career 30% 3pt shooter) is most likely locked in at PF for at least one more season.
And then there’s the defense.
Sorry if this was rambling I just woke up.
Good points!!

I haven't really seen it with James either. It's too bad we didn't get a whole year of him but I also can't blame him for leaving.
Thoughts on Okongwu?
It was the smart decision to leave, despite myself, you, and others not being happy about it haha.
Love Yek. Gonna be a special defender in the NBA, has shown some Js this year, and is a high level rebounder. Would like to see him show a bit more passing in the 2nd half besides out of the post, though - gimme some short rolls, please.
Oh, he HAD to leave. Terrible precedent for the NCAAs but I suppose they've all decided they're going down with the "integrity of amateur sports" ship. They have to protect the children, of course.
Yeah, I love what I've seen from OO. Seems a bit like Harrell or Holmes in that he'll probably play C in the bigs but can play PF. Decent FT% so maybe he can move out. Bigs are so hard to judge in college because for the most part the good ones can just wreck everyone inside so why show the rest of your game?
I have a pick that could be in the 6-8 range in BAF

rather build the front court around mitch and wouldn’t think twice about it.
the knicks likely would never take him anyway. they realize how desperate they are for good guard play.

Convince me why we shouldn't draft Nico? Might be best shooter in the draft, and great passer.

The draft is not the only source for guards though.

Even if his shooting percentages have dipped I am still high on Nico.
He should definitely be in consideration if Randle fails to be a Top 2 pick magnet that he has been throughout his whole career.

Better put some respeck on Wiseman’s name... I’m bookmarking this thread for down the road so we can check the receipts. Don’t care if a scout doesn’t like him... professional scouts get players wrong alllll the time... that’s why so many teams passed on players like Kawhi, Giannis, etc and why teams with professional scouts draft busts like Olowokandi n Kwame #1. Nobody knows anything lol.

The same people in this thread that swear Wiseman is not gonna be good are the same people who wanted to draft Frank, Culver, Mikal, Garland. So with that being said, I hope we get Wiseman.

Nah Luka is better. Luka is playing at a crazy high level right now so I’ll give him it. But Ayton is still very good and has looked like a two way star this season in the games he played

Lol eventually you’ll admit you were wrong on him. You did say Wendell Carter is better than him and that boy has been trash this season

I'm not wavering though.
I didn't survive 2019 only to fold at the last second for a center who doesn't play D

Don’t look now but Ayton has been a better rim protector than Carter
https://stats.nba.com/player/1629028/defense-dash/

But to be fair it is a very small sample size. We need to see if he will keep this up. He’s really looked like a competent defender so far. Too bad he’s injured. He needs to hurry up and get healthy. I waited too long for him to come back from his suspension lol

He ain’t the best shooter in the draft lol maybe best Shooter out of the top point guards.
I like his play style though you usually can’t go wrong in today’s nba with point guards like him that can shoot and make plays.
