Re: 2019 Regular Season
hopefully cook's injury isn't too serious but looks like we have pretty solid rb depth even with mattison out today
we're in good shape right now, just need to avoid turnovers

Vikings can still get the number one seed or completely miss the playoffs. Probably will get the 6th seed whether they win out or lose out though.

Not realistically, since there are 4 teams ahead of us, but we are only one game back with 2 to play.

Re: 2019 Regular Season

so i guess i won't hold my breath

Re: 2019 Regular Season
Thought this was a solid little read (Im a fan of PFF). This is the PFF pro bowl team.
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-pffs-2020-nfl-pro-bowl-rosters
According to PFF we should have
Kirk
Cook
Hunter
Kendricks (highest rated LB this year)
Smith
Harris
I would say my eye test approves of this. I feel like those 6 have been our clear top 6 players this year.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
cook, hunter, and smith all made the pro bowl
cousins and hendricks will probably get in after others pass would be my guess

i'm surprised harris has graded out that well
seems like he's played very solid all year but i guess its been better than that. interesting that our woebegone corners haven't impacted the play of the safeties - or maybe the safeties are making a lot of great plays to cover for the corners

Ya I was surprised he graded out to being the 3rd best safety in the league. I also agree with your post above that Cousins and Kendricks will get in once a few people drop out and whatever.
Our corners graded really poorly
Rhodes: 47.8
Waynes: 62.8
Hughes: 59.5
Alexander: 63.7
If that group played up to their ability, our defense would've really been elite this year. Elite safeties, elite pass rushers (Griffin still graded out well this year) and Linval still a top run stuffer, then the highest graded LB. Man if we had prime Rhodes this year, we could've been special this year on that end.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
Our corners will most likely be the reason the Vikings don't advance deep in the playoffs this year. Rhodes is a liability.

Re: 2019 Regular Season
Been a fan of pro sports for 30 years, and I'm not sure I can remember a quality player on one of my favorite teams falling off as unexpected or dramatically as Rhodes has. I'm sure I'm forgetting lots of examples, but man, what a disappointment. I figured we had a good five years of elite-ish cornerback play to look forward to but he's completely dropped off the face of the earth.Guess we can look forward to yet another corner in the first round this year.
At any rate, this is totally unrelated but funny. Sit down at my local bar in Midtown Atlanta to watch the game a couple of weeks ago, and this guy notices my Vikings hat and says he's an old college buddy of Henry Thomas. Hey, that's cool, haven't thought about Hank in a long time. He tells me about some game in the Metrodome where Mike Saxon missed a kick or had some other kind of screw up that cost them a game, and he had to talk Thomas and a couple of other players from going into the family lounge and beating the sh*t out of him in front of all the wives and kids. Some of the stuff that goes on behind closed doors...

Re: 2019 Regular Season
between rhodes falling off, free agency (waynes, alexander) and the young guys not being ready yet (hughes, hill) - we probably need to draft all the corners we can get our hands on

Re: 2019 Regular Season
Expecting a split of the final two games at best from a Zimmer finish.
That would put him at 11-5 at best, earning Zimmer around $3,300,000 on wins and $1,500,000 on losses. What difference does it make to him really. But wouldn't it be funny if all the outside games fall just right to have Vikings finish 11-5 and still become the third team in history to not make the playoffs with 11 games. Joining Matt Cassell in that distinction.
I wonder what the odds are of: (Given Packers/Bears games left)
Losing out and ending 10-6
Winning out and ending 12-4
**Tieing the Packers at 12-4 and still losing the division to them, getting the 5th seed out of luck from others, and then getting their butts served up on a platter by Philadelphia playing in playoff mode.
Ah, who cares. We know they aren't capable of much playoff caliber mode anyway. They might have to draw the Cowboys to have a chance getting past a single round.

Seattle lost, which opens an opportunity at the 5th seed I’d we win out.

Even if we win out, we'll need the Packers to lose to Detroit to win the division. If we win out, we are guaranteed the 5th seed though (I think).

yeah
wouldn't we need seattle to lose again as well? if they win next week and we win out won't we have the same record and they beat us head to head
never mind, you're right. just hit up the playoff machine (such a fun tool). if seattle wins they get their division and the niners drop and i guess we have the tiebreaker over them

Re: 2019 Regular Season
sounds like we're resting a lot of the starters for most or all of this one since there is nothing at stake
probably a good idea, keep people healthy and give others time to get healthier. plus its the dang bears and we probably shouldn't subject cousins to more of mack than necessary
