The Rockets probably thought they could provide Westbrook offensive options and spacing the Thunder didn't have so he could flourish.

Little did they know getting Russ more space and less pressure offensively meant he had more room to jack up threes at 23%...

Russ biggest problem was always that his outside shooting was Rubio/Rondo levels, but he utilized it like it was Steph/Dame levels.

He and harden were not getting along. I think the rockets fo knew they were downgrading a bit

Wasn't commenting on just the FO (though I think they did poorly in the actual trade), but also on MDA/Harden (I'm unsure how much each was involved). CP3 is the type to stomach a bad work relationship and 'make it work' for better or worse, and for the Rockets it was largely working.

Yes, agreed. Recent comments show he wanted to come back. It seems the personal relationship became toxic. CP3 has a history of that I guess. New ownership also has been making some questionable decisions

Westbrook was NOT considered a downgrade at the time of the trade.

He was to people who thought the fit was AWFUL

Hou's big issue was GS, with GS out of the way, they should have kept the duo for at least this season

They would be up there in the bracket of MIL, LAC, and LAL

Russ was one of the worst fits

Westbrook is one of the most popular players in the league, so this isn't really indicative of much. Most people who said Westbrook wasn't a downgrade didn't have much reasons behind their conclusions. A lot of raw hope around Westbrook to Houston.

On another note, even fit aside - Chris Paul is better than Russell Westbrook and was better last year as well. Westbrook's MVP reputation from couple seasons ago while CP3 declining at an age where a lot of people have already been indifferent to his goodness for years just painted their narratives differently.

IMO Westbrook was the best player they could get after the harden/cp3 relationship deteriorated. I don't really think Morey was fully on board but ownership pushed it through.

That being said by net rating they are pretty close to last year. Although that's with cp3 missing a lot of games.

I love OKC team. I was always Adams fan (good oldschool bruiser with decent skills) and now they have another one among my favorites in Shai. Then there is Paul who is basically smaller Bucks Oscar with his approach and I love him here far more than in Houston.

If they make playoffs and face Nuggets in first round, I wouldn't rule them out. Paul will be huge in playoffs with reduced role (he has excellent season so far) and on offense Adams could cause Jokic problems with his strength and agression. Not to mention how much more athletic Shai and Schroeder are than Denver guards. We'll see but I can imagine Thunder in second round this year which is ridiculous considering that I thought they would be bottom 5 team in West. I underestimated how good CP3 can still be with proper role.

To me the CP3 for Westbrook trade was all about the long term and health of CP3. Its obviously a worse fit right now but that really doesn't matter if CP3 only plays 60 games a year and always misses time in the postseason or is below 100%.

But I don't think anyone expected Westbrook to have such a hard time adjusting, maybe its age/health with him too but he's definitely been a bad fit. Can't imagine Morey wouldn't give him at least a full season for them to work things out, or even into next season too.

Anyways for OKC, they have so many picks I feel like they're gonna have to make a move. Lot of them will likely turn out to be later in the 1st round so they probably have more value now than when they actually convey, unlike the Boston situation where it always seemed those picks turned out to be better than anyone expected.

Not sure what exactly those moves will be though... trade market this year has been, odd, to say the least.

The hit rate on those mid-range pull ups, it becomes really hard to defend OKC late in games if CP3 can constantly just dribble into these shots.

CP3 was traded because harden wanted him gone.

No chance Morey does that trade otherwise.

He wouldn't get those shots in Houston anyway

Really? Should've been obvious to anyone who watched how Westbrook handled playing next to better players in KD and Paul George, especially considering his easily predictable decline coupled with his consistently mediocre decision making.
Him and Harden working well was based on their previous time together and friendship, more than how their skills meshed. That was the longshot if you ask me.

I definitely expected Westbrook to have this much trouble adjusting. He’s played almost his entire career with a better more efficient scorer next to him and he’s never been able to take a backseat. And with the premium on spacing nowadays, he’s an active liability whenever the ball’s not in his hands which it really shouldn’t be all that much. His difficulties were extremely predictable. The only thing that’s surprised me is that Houston’s managed to be so successful in spite of him. I thought they’d be a 6 or 7 seed.

Pretty much. There is zero reason to be surprised by how it's turning out if you've followed his career closely enough. Banking on friendship and BBIQ that he obviously doesn't have is wishful thinking.
Noone should get me wrong though. There's still the chance they can figure something out and possibly win a title, but then if that happens, that would be the surprise.

Cp3/Sga/Schroder/Gallo/Adams is the best lineup in the league by far at +30.1 net rating :o :o :o

Cp3/Sga/Schroder lineup is the best 3 man lineup too with +28.3 :o :o

this is making me wonder what wouldve happened if Okc had Cp3 instead of Westbrook alongside Kd. Gallo in alot of ways is like a homeless mans Kd
