Predictable. Gratuitous. Probably not worth a thread.

I’ll allow it.

But for real, if there was a moment that stands out over the entire decade its probably the win streak when SVG told the team to build a **** wall .... that soon had the season derailed by Brandon Jennings injury. Not much sticks out from this decade.

So many great memories from the 80s, 90s, even the Teal years with Grant Hill, Terry Mills, Theo Ratliff etc... the excitement of having a young Lindsey Hunter and Allan Houston..., 2000s Going to work Pistons.... its crazy that the past decade is mostly foggy for me with not much of anything sticking out.

I feel like every year this decade has been really similar. Even the two seasons we made the playoffs.

I was just talking with a friend the other day about how it baffles me that so many people still don't understand this. I was that guy at the New Year's Eve party in 1999 saying, "You're doing it wrong; it's not the start of the new millennium yet. That's next year." :)

Well played.

On a more serious note, this remains one of my faorite pistons moments ever. The basketball we were playing after waiving Josh Smith was so fun to watch.

Wow. It’s pretty bad when your top “highlight” over a 10-year period is getting rid of an albatross player...lol. Kinda like curing your gonorrhea.

Is is that people don’t understand, or is it just that the numbers ticking over means more to them then the actual end of the decade from a technical standpoint?

It's just how you look at it. The decade of the 80s is from jan 1st 1980 to dec 31st 1989.... the decade of the 2010s is from jan 1st 2010 to Dec 31st 2019.

That is how its categorized by 99.9 percent of people.

Then 99.9% of people categorize it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

I’m technically correct. The best kind of correct.

Actually, the only kind of correct, technically.

Correct. There was no Year 0, so the end of the first decade was the END of year 10. Thus the end of the second millennium was the end of the year 2000. And yes, this is actually what I’ve had to explain to many people who truly didn’t get it.

Now certainly “the 90’s” as a decade is absolutely defined by everyone as the start of 1990 to the end of 1999. But obviously that doesn’t have the same meaning as “the end of the second millennium” or “the end of the 200th decade.”

Yep. We're at the absolute bottom right now. We're talking about specifics in regards to decades and millenniums lol.

The end of 2019 marks the end of "a" decade, not the end of "the" decade.

If that makes any sense.

In any event, as I've aged I have decidedly soured on all markers of the passage of time. I despise New Years.

It does indeed.

In any event, as I've aged I have decidedly soured on all markers of the passage of time. I despise New Years.

All it means to me is a lead-in for good bowl games and I don’t have to work. I outgrew the partying aspect of it a long time ago. But I’m old, relatively speaking (52).

But being that I’m five years from retirement at most (trying to make it four), those markers for passage of time that I used to “ugh! Another year gone by” about are now triggers for “oh yeah—one step closer.”

Look on the bright side—throw any topic out there that has some debatability or subjectivity that can spurn a discussion and I’ll be happy to keep you occupied. I’m a chatty mofo.

Who remembers that Will Bynum game where we came back from down big and he scored like 30 in the 4th and OT, and we still lost. Probably my fav of the decade along with Jennings v Spurs and the Reggie Jackson comeback v Portland.

No playoff wins this decade. :(
