Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part III
I want to see first year allstars that actually deserve it.
Trae Young
Zach Lavine
Spencer Dinwiddie
Those three are really going for it. Maybe Ben getting denied will light a fire under him like someone just said and we'll get the best from him in the second half of the season.

Let’s see what happens, if he does get voted to be an all star, I guess the haters here are simply the minority, on the other hand, if he doesn’t get voted, I will STFU.

Ben only makes it if we are a top 3 seed by the time coaches vote....and even then I could see Tobias getting the nod from the coaches.

It would be best tor Ben not to make the allstar for the long term. So he can stop saying “but im an allstar”
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Everybody say it with me “Ben Simmons is a PF” with elite defense, ball handling , athleticism and vision. Now act accordingly...
Sorry that not all special players are shooters .

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part III
Ben not making the all star team would be a step in the right direction for him to realize that he's not as good as he thinks he is. Even Lonzo Ball shot 4-8 from 3 point land the other night. And has worked on getting a better shooting form.
I understand different people progress at different speeds. But Ben's progress in the shooting department has been dismal at best.

You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

The mistake was building a team with Ben as your only facilitator and no snipers. He nor zembiid have Ben put in the best chance to succeed.

Defensively I think he's a SF. In transition I think he's a PG. In the half court I think he's a C.
He's a unique player. Guys with his size, athleticism, and coordination are rare to say the least.
I don't think the current lineup is doing him (or Embiid) any favors.
He's also an incredibly frustrating player. Being a poor shooter is one thing, being completely unwilling to take a shot is another.
Those frustrations have led to some pretty ridiculous takes around here.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part III
Games like this should not be an aberration. They should be semi-regular.
Nobody would be complaining if he was carrying a 20+ scoring load. Even the questions of fit due to no jumper would just be minor conjecture. We'd just be happy with having two stars and having a puncher's chance at winning it all. Just like James/Davis and Harden/Westbrook.
Ef the shooting, Ben Simmons lack of scoring aggression is the lightning rod for all the ire. Score the damn ball and the critics will quiet down and happy times will come about.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part III
For all the athleticism he is supposed to have i have never, or very rarely, seen him blow by someone, dunk on someone or overpower someone. He is athletic but in ways that are not the most useful in basketball. He is more fast than quick, he is not a fluid athlete but more of straight line run and jump type of athlete. Now maybe it's his dribble or his footwork or something else to blame but the result is that he doesnt seem to be able to create good shots for himself 1v1 even against opponents with inferior physical profile. He also appears to have bad touch around the rim. It's like he has a lot of rare skills and attributes but the total package somehow is lacking.

The total package is lacking because he feasted on way inferior competition during High School and College, that was enough to score and dominate. Now that competition is much stronger (albeit Ben is still faster, stronger and more talented than most defenders), the coasting on talent strategy is not as effective anymore.

While you are correct, many still over state his "talent"level. He is not near as talented as people assume. He has horrible footwork and body control and change of direction with the ball and cant finish with the ball away from his body like true guards can. He cant shoot. He is onlu gifted with size and strait speed and jumping
He is no where near an elite bball talent in terms of ability with the basketball in his posession

I have said this a lot. Team is more built for Ben than Embiid but not really. Our best run and jump athletes are spazoids and no one beyond Furkan and Scott like to jack 3s. Ben needs athletes to run with, a guy who can spot up but also create for himself, and knock down shooters to spread the floor for him. ANd to be fair the FO attempted this with Fultz and Jimmy...but neither could or wanted to spot up. TLC and Furk in theory are perfect running mates but both's athleticism wasn't as advertised and the former couldn't shoot. Thybulle is perfect if his shot is real tho. As is tho the team is full of ok athletes who want to post up rather than spot up and jack 3s.
again dead horse beating but man this roster is weird as **** lol.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part III
What I don't understand is that Simmons is shooting nearly 10% worse at the free throw line in the NBA than he did in college. And it's not like he had a small sample size in college, he was at the line 9+ times a game.
Blake Griffin, Aaron Gordon, and Jaylen Brown were even worse free throw shooting in college and got better in the NBA. Why isn't Ben raising his percentages? It has to be a work ethic thing.

It is, but people told me he is improving and yada yada. You don't go 67% FT to 58% FT if you work hard on your shot. Dude is lazy and doesn't give a ****.
For reference, Embiid was at a similar 68% in college and is now at 83%, one works much harder and the other just coasts on talent.

He needs to fix his form, from his foot to the way the ball leaves his hands there are issues. No matter how much you train if your form is bad it will not help much. He might also not be very talented in terms of shooting touch regardless.

Even Markelle Fultz is now shooting 73% from the line this year.
Was at 64.9% in college (worse than Ben).
