A point guard who can't breakdown defenses in the half court game either by shooting or driving makes life harder for everyone else. I'm not saying Ben isn't talented. He's ridiculously talented. But he is a major liability for us on offense. At least fake like you might shoot it, otherwise it's always 4 on 5 with him on the court. That forces everyone else to work crazy hard to get a good shot. His deficiencies becomes most obvious in the end game senarios.[/quote
There is a book I love called Talent is overrated. In one chapter it talks about Jerry Rice and how his workout routine in the off season were so intense. Other players used to come train with him and just not be able to keep up. He said a lot of his work ethic came from the fact that he was from a small school and a small town and no one thought he would be as good as he turned out to be. So he had to work hard to stay on top. Tom Brady said that he just hoped one day he would be able to start in the NFL.
The point is. Ben is as you said ridiculously talented. But he has been handed the keys everywhere he has gone. He has never had to work ridiculously hard for anything basketball related. So he probably does not know how to work really hard. Working hard and sticking with it is a skill. A skill that Ben probably has not mastered yet. And he just can't see his flaws yet.
In that case Ben needs a coach that will push him hard and demand high standards instead on coddling him. If you wait for Ben to arrive on his own time, it will never happen. If the team doesn't think Ben can be pushed and challenged to raise his game, then they need to unload him while his value is high
