Fair take imo. But I think 1.5 years of Drummond is pretty valuable - if the cost isn't that high. Doesn't really change our future plans (if that plan is in fact a long shot at Giannis) and I don't think adding Drummond makes us worse.

Looking back, BC could have done a lot worse. T-Ross has carved out a nice career and it's not like Drummond's a transcendent talent - he's never won a playoff game. Plus, things worked out pretty well for the Raps; if BC took Drummond maybe it buys him a little more time instead of getting canned when he did.

If it does mean trading Serge (or even any of Gasol or Norm), i'm sure there will be a 3rd team such that they will go to a team they'd rather be than Detroit. I don't think they'll do them dirty like that (yes, Masai traded DeMar, but he traded him to Pop)

Think this is just a smokescreen to get Atlanta to give up more assets.

We don't have to give him another contract. Whether he leaves in FA or opts-in for one more year, we'd still be in play for 2021.

But don't you feel a team would give up more to get him if they feel they can bring him back? It's why i can't see him coming here because we won't give up enough value if our plan would be to let him walk. It's one thing if he was our missing peice for another championship but he is clearly not that.

If another team wants to overpay, I'm sure we'd just leave the table. Masai wants to keep this team competitive to show FA's we can still contend.

Either way, I trust Masai whatever he does. FWIW, by the sounds of it, it's just a rumour anyways. And ATL is the name that sounds furthest in discussions.

The more I think on it, the more I like it. I like giving Lowry a lob target in PnR, which he hasn't really had since Bebe whom he had great chemistry with. Drummond can also quarterback a possession here and there with his skill set, and of course shores up the rebounding issues.

Athletically gifted but not the greatest bball IQ you'd want for this team

To me this trade only makes sense if you don't think Giannis is coming. Why would you trade for Drummond just to let him walk? Ibaka + Norm + our 2020 1st probably gets it done. I actually think Drummond would be a decent fit next to our guys moving forward if we wanted to go that route. It would depend on the contract.

Ackshun wrote:I do Like Drummond but to me, he's that third piece.

We are ranked in the last 3 in def rebound % which is a problem that needed addressing. But at what cost ?

I don't move Gasol because he's far too important at the elbow for us. Plus his ability to guard the paint again giannis and shut down Embild is needed.

Andre's contract is up just before the 21/22 season starts. I know we like that.

Ibaka/Miller/future 1st gets it done and gives Detroit cap flexibility to try something different this off-season.

I worry about spacing with with a Gasol/Pascal/Drummond/RHJ/Boucher front court rotation though.

hmmm

Pretty ironic that this your response and yet you referenced someone else being low IQ.

People really want to trade Gasol for Drummond? Drummond is still relatively young and he's very durable, but Gasol is way too important to our team. He was playing much better the last few weeks before his injury, averaging 9/7/4 on 47% shooting.

Pretty much the only thing Drummond does better than Gasol is rebound, which in turn gives him a lot more easy points in the paint. Gasol has the advantage offensively (shooting, playmaking, spacing, etc.) and defensively by far, and he doesn't clog the paint.

As I recall it, Marc held Embiid scoreless and helpless. This trade is media fluffing for clicks.

Good teams don’t bank on free agents coming. They keep trying to get better and don’t expect somebody to come save them. Lakers getting lucky shouldn’t change this narrative. We are certainly not the Lakers. And even if Toronto is awesome and a way better place live. Its cold here and that’s all rich athletes see. They can live in neighbourhoods anywhere they wouldn’t have to lock there doors. But it has to be atleast that magical 70 F.

I don't think it is either/or.

Drummond has a player option for next season and whether he takes the option or not does not affect plans for Giannis 2 years down the road.

I'm almost certain that the package going the other way would be Ibaka, Powell and a draft pick.

Maybe what we should be trying to do is taking advantage of Dallas souring on Kristaps Porzingis. Poach him before he finds his full potential again.

Do not want Drummond anywhere near the Raps. Definitely not giving up any assets for him. This is not a Masai type move anyways.

You're giving up Ibaka, Powell AND a first for this???

https://www.nba.com/article/2018/10/24/joel-embiid-andre-drummond-own-real-estate-his-head
The longstanding discord between Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond added another chapter to its lore last night. In Detroit's thrilling 133-132 overtime win against Philadelphia, Embiid put in some serious work on the court, finishing with 33 points and 11 rebounds to Drummond's 14 and 16, respectively.

As our Drew Packham pointed out in the latest About Last Night filing, the two big men were going at each other all game. Embiid made a point throughout the game to let Drummond know he couldn't guard him, and with 42.8 seconds left in regulation, Drummond was ejected after picking up his second technical foul.

Why would Atlanta want him unless to sign him for the future? They're not making the playoffs this year. If to sign him for the future, why not use cap space and do it in the summer? As for contenders, he can't shoot and defence is suspect. Doesn't the future of the C position need to be a shooter? Maybe the Celtics or Heat could use big man depth, but this isn't Marc Gasol where you think he's the missing piece to success in the playoffs.

And for us, he doesn't make any sense. Not for this year or the future. We already have better C options.
