I'm guessing John Collins won't get a shot at redeeming himself at the dunk contest.

Trae will get the invite to play in the Rookie-Sophomore game.

As will De'Andre Hunter...not so sure about Cam.

I'll have to check and see what the other Sophs are doing. Kev's slow start to the season might limit his opportunity.

Edit: after review, I'd say he has a good a chance as any from that class not named Trae or Luka. Ayton, Bagley has has their share of missed games, the Bridges boys struggling some, some like Bamba and Knox are underwhelming.

Ayton should be a lock since returning from suspension. By the time the break happens he will be consistent enough to attend if he wants. I'm sure he wants to take part since returning.
Bagley can't seem to get healthy and Kevin Huerter will make it.

I feel like the Rising Stars game was the moment where things clicked in Trae's head and he realized he could be a legit superstar in this league. Remember the tear he went on right after the game?

Let it be remembered, Trae and Luka faced off in the Skills competition head to head last year.

Trae was victorious then. I expect him to win again this year.

Note: Luka is legit an underwhelming shooter from deep 32% for the season. 32% for his career.

When it comes to whether or not Trae Young should be an All-Star, who cares?

Atlanta’s second-year guard, currently fourth in the NBA in scoring at 28.9 points per game, leads Eastern Conference guards in fan voting through last week. At this writing, though, the Hawks are an NBA-worst 8-32, a glistening .200 win percentage. So, of course, some have wondered about the “fairness” of a player on a team that’s so bad potentially being an All-Star starter.

To which, I say: oh, stuff it.

It’s an exhibition. Stop it. If fans want to see Trae Young jacking 3s, so be it.

Atlanta expected to be much better this year. The Hawks believe in their young core, which includes Young and John Collins and Kevin Huerter. But Collins was suspended 25 games at the start of the season by the league...Huerter missed 11 games early...DeAndre Hunter has flashed at points as a rookie, but has struggled to consistently contribute offensively.

That’s left Young, who’s been a one-man gang. He’s shooting 37 percent on 3s. He’s scored 40 or more six times this season, including 49 at Indiana just after Thanksgiving. He’s tied for sixth in the league in made 3s (124) and is fifth in assists per game (8.4). Plus, he’s had a true impact in Atlanta, donating $10,000 that was applied toward retiring more than $1 million in long-term medical debt.

But, it’s hard to celebrate individual achievement on a team that’s so bad. I get it. So do the Hawks.

Atlanta Coach Lloyd Pierce fusses at Young more this season, challenges him to pay more attention to detail. If the Hawks are ever going to get good again, it’s because Young is better at everything, starting at the defensive end.

If there’s one thing we know, though, it’s that All-Star Weekend is all about individuals, and nothing about teams. (Young has already been invited to participate in the Rising Stars game on Friday night, in the U.S. versus The World format, and the Skills Challenge on All-Star Saturday Night.)

In the meantime, give the fans what they want. It’s their game.
