It's going to be a little awkward watching Drummond play with all these trade talks going on.

Get used to it.

I'd be surprised if he's traded too far ahead the deadline. He has a trade kicker that gets smaller the farther into the season he's traded.

Heck, it's even possible (though unlikely) that a deal has been agreed to on the sly already.

I think he’s dealt in the next few days. Are we even sure he’s playing tonight? Seems like they wouldn’t let him.

I seen that, something like it gets $12,000 cheaper everyday til the deadline right?

Yeah, it's something along those lines.

I think it's 8% for every day you're playing for a team you didn't sign the contract with. That's how a trade kicker works. I'm not sure if it goes by days, or days played, or days during the regular season, or whatever, but it's something like that.

Drummond will get extra for every day after the trade deadline too, it's just that you save money by not trading for him sooner. If he'd been traded with 2 years left his contract for that entire 2 years would be 8% higher, one of the reasons trading him was going to be so problematic. It's also one of the reasons Blake's deal is so tough to handle right now, because he's actually being paid more than the Clippers initially committed to paying him.

Do you bench Drummond? Personally, I would. I don't want him hurt. He needs to be traded asap

We absolutely should not play him. Shut every guy down that's likely to fetch value in the market. Give Rose a well deserved extended vacation to Bora Bora and let guys like Galloway and Kieff tagalong.

If you bench him you fully commit to dealing him and lose leverage.

I assume they at least publicly want to have the option of keeping him. Heck, they might even still want that option in actuality. We don't know how internally committed they are to move him.

No way Detroit max him out! He either walks for nothing or you gets something.

I don't think it's even maxing out that's going to happen, rather just a dumb and needless extension.

I agree with you about that being the correct course. We absolutely SHOULD deal him. But for all we know what's going on right now is just due diligence.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time we've disagreed with what the team does.

To be clear, I still think we PROBABLY trade him. But we should be prepared for the possibility of another outcome. The information we have right now, intriguing though it may be, is pretty limited and inconclusive.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here, this is still the Detroit Pistons led by "playoffs or bust" Tom Gores and two 60 year olds in Stefanski and Casey.

People talk about their "biggest fear" being letting Dre walk for nothing, but you know what? Not only does that not scare me, but I welcome that. My 2 biggest fears are:

1) Detroit gonna Detroit and does something along the lines of packaging the expirings of Drummond/Jackson/Galloway/Maker to do OKC a huge favor and provide them massive cap relief for CP3/Adams while Gores/Stefanski and crew frame it as Detroit getting another "star."

2) Detroit signs Drummond to an extension, thus locking in another 5 years of this current long standing purgatory of never making any noise in the playoffs yet never securing a top 5 draft pick.

I hope the Pistons have learned from the Lions situation. The Lions should have traded Matt Stafford long time ago. Now, they're trying to win with him ala Blake Griffin. However, in order to compete long term, you have to do a complete rebuild. You can't rebuild on the fly. Break everything down and start from scratch. This is why the Lions have been a complete failure. I would hope Gores has studied their situation closely. He surely can learn what not to do

I hope folks aren't too excited by Sekou starting. It's only because both Griffin and Morris are out.

But hey, at least he's finally ahead of Thon Maker.

Man Sekou can be really good by the time hes old enough to drink a beer. Youngest player in the league and already looks much better defensively from SL to now
