Should NBA make FIBA Gamedays open date on the schedule?

Post#1 » by MasterGMer » Mon Jan 6, 2020 12:13 am

NBA is proposing new rules for the 2021/22 season with in season Basketball Tournament.

But should NBA make open days for FIBA competition so that our All Stars and Dream team players are available to play World Cup Qualifying Games or FIBA Competitions?

European soccer is already having that and world soccer leagues all have open days for international competition. Should NBA at least consider that?

I know, kinda OT post. Just curious!

In reality, NBA players have never really take World Championships seriously. Its the Olympics they care about.

As far as i can tell the USA doesn't and hasn't ever really cared about competing in global team competions with other nations. Although they reluctantly play the global game (soccer) and have been okay in recent World Cups... and they do take the Rider Cup seriously. But apart from that...

The mid-season tournament sounds like a good idea in theory, it works well in most other sports, but... what is the incentive for the players and franchises to win that, exactly? I don't think teams would take it seriously. Would the winners get an automatic playoff berth...? An extra draft pick? More cap room? Or simply a second-fiddle trophy? I just cant see anyone in the NBA giving a damn about it.

By NBA players, you mean North American ones, right? I see a lot of players from Argentina, Brazil and Europe taking it as serious as the Olympics.
