What an absolute disaster.......
The time to start the rebuild was last year at the deadline. Instead, Gores got the 8th seed! Now Griffin has no value and Drummond might get a mid first rounder. Another poorly run franchise in the Motor City. Puke.

Is everyone really going to do this? The rebuild has finally started after a decade in the wilderness and it should have started last year?
C'mon people.

I mean, it should have.
The money sunk into Blake and the assets we might have gotten him are spilled milk, but for those of us who recognized well over a year ago that the glass of milk was going to fall have a right to be frustrated.

Pick any year after maybe 2010 (5 years removed from our last Finals appearance) and anyone can make the argument we should have rebuilt through the Draft then.
It is what it is.
Personally I want Blake to have surgery, Dre to get dealt (Parsons & Brooklyn pick please), Galloway to get dealt (late first please) and Reggie to retire.
Wood, Sekou, Snell, Luke & Brown can start. We'll earn our high Lotto pick.

Blake trade was a whole new glass, man. There have been numerous glasses. Billups trade. Rip extension. Gordon, CV, and Smith signings. Numerous draft fumbles.
Our rebuild timeline would look different with a pick in 2018 and a better pick last year, not to mention a healthier cap situation.
I hope we tear it all down. I’d love to get some nice assets if we can, but that’s secondary to letting our young players breathe and getting a higher pick. Need to manage expectations for those trades. I’d be happy if we got a first for Dre, seconds for others, and no long term money.

At some point playing the same record over and over broke the needle and all I hear is a screeching sound.Snakebites wrote:zeebneeb wrote:Is everyone really going to do this? The rebuild has finally started after a decade in the wilderness and it should have started last year?

I'm just waiting for one of the supporters of the Blake trade to admit they were wrong. All I'm seeing on the pistons fan boards is the same people who liked the trade now switching there tune to "its a good thing now we got our tank commander".
You dont trade assets like T.Harris and a lotto pick +use tons of cap space for the rights to pay a "tank commander" 35+mill per season to lose games. You use the cap space to take back other teams bad contracts and get picks in the process and use those players as your "tank commanders".

Perhaps what you hear isn’t the biggest concern of those who are expressing unhappiness?

Re: What an absolute disaster.......
To me, there was a grand total of one year that I felt they had a shot at 50 wins - 2016-17. They were 44-38 the prior year, had lots of players on the upswing........
Then SVG blew $70 million on Ish, Boban and Leuer, Drummond regressed, KCP and Morris leveled off, Reggie got hurt, and it all went to crap. Eventually Gores doubled down on Blake. Yuck.
I give Blake a ton of credit for how he played last season - he was a true warrior. Never was his stock going to be any higher. And never were the Pistons going to be a contender. Therefore, SELL HIGH.
The Pistons didn’t, so now we have two years and $75 million of Blake. Awesome. We’ll be lucky to get anything more than a pick for Drummond. A first rounder for Galloway? Stop. Anybody wonder if Tony Snell will exercise his $12 million option? The good news is Josh Smith finally comes off the books!

See folks, he did it, and he's still here. The internet didn't nuke him or anything.
Now you guys can do it too!
It's okay, guys, I defended the Darko pick at the time. I thought Rodney White still had a chance after doing nothing his first season. I was mad that we picked Rodney Stuckey, but I wanted Nick Young or Javaris Crittenton. Yikes.

I want you to be the GM. I’d pay good money to watch fifteen Nick Young’s out there.

Re: What an absolute disaster.......
Blake put together one of the greatest seasons a single piston has ever put together, and for that, i’m forever grateful for his services.
that being said, we got into a classic pistons-only bidding war for him and got jerry wested...hard. I have no problem admitting i was wrong for being supportive/excited for the trade at the time, but like I said, he had an incredible season for us, one that his most vocal doubters said would never happen, and you can’t take that away from the books.

ALSO, I was stuckey and KCP’s biggest supporters. it’s not easy to win in this league, man. it takes a great basketball mind, but it also takes a great deal of luck, especially in Detroit. sometimes you get mcdyess, will Bynum, or Christian wood. Other times, you get Walter Hermann and glen Robinson.

Much respect man.
Since this board is named "RealGM" its important for us as wanna be GMs to admit when we were wrong so we dont repeat or accept dumb moves in the future. Particularly the really franchise-altering moves like this one.
Now we can proceed to figure out how to fix this mess over the next however many years.

i thought the trade was ok at the time as the pistons were in win-now mode and got a player more talented than harris the problem is that 1. we never got better shooters around blake/dre 2. reggie never got 100% healthy 3. the team overused blake like hell so now the pistons are paying for it. ultimately never rebuilding 100% got us in the dark times last decade alot of bad signings, trades etc. hopefully we finally reconstruct this franchise.

God, I bought so much stock for KCP and thought he really was one of the premier 3 n D stars so to speak. Now he's just a pawn for nepotism for the Lakers. He just...never did anything outside of what he gave us in 2015 maybe 2016.

Im the dude that was pimping SJ after every season thinking one day his game would catch up to his intangibles & mouth.
Instead everything they regressed to match his game.

Re: What an absolute disaster.......
Yeah i was most vocal about approving the trade at the time but if were gonna play this game of our RealGM credibility i would still be sitting here with Donovan Mitchell and Sekou on my roster with a broke down Blake and gunning for a top 4 pick.
