2020 cheap free agent targets
Some free agents the Cavs should target in 2020:
Jae Crowder - Crowder played for the Cavs a few years ago. He'd be a nice rotational piece.
4 yrs 30m
Noah Vonleh - Solid rotational big
4 yrs 30m
Ben McLemore - He has transformed himself into a solid 3 & d guard.
4 yrs 20m
Isaiah Thomas - He's still trying to recover from his injuries, but a solid risk nonetheless.

don't see them having any interest in those players and doubtful any of the players would come to long rebuild without getting overpaid. pass

Vonleh is the only one worth signing and I wouldn't offer him more than a year or two at $5M per.

I like the idea of your thread, but I just can't imagine a Jae Crowder or Isaiah Thomas do over and Ben McLemore has a reputation of being umm intellectually challenged? Is that how we say that?
Vonleh is ok, but I'm not sure he has breakout potential and that's ideally what we should be looking for or at least pieces that would fit well.
Heck, it would be nice to see what Zizic and Wade could do given some minutes.

I'm legitimately curious as to why they didn't pick up Zizic's option. Given what he was paid, it's kind of baffling.JonFromVA wrote:JJ_PR wrote:Some free agents the Cavs should target in 2020:

Clearly we're not happy with his conditioning/development because he can barely get any run, but I believe it opens the door to signing him for less or longer than his option. Of course he could just go play in Europe, but Altman was quoted as saying we haven't ruled anything out.
Of course if we add some low-cost free-agents, it will affect our ability to pursue the more expensive free-agents. Montrez Harrell for instance might be available depending how the Clippers decide to juggle their books.

Harrell legit scares me as a F.A. signing. It's not hard to envision a scenario where he turns into a more expensive version of Faried.

giving them 4 year contracts defeat the purpose of cheap even if the aav is low.
no need to commit that many years to any of them.

He may be closer to Faried than he is to Draymond ... but Faried is not a very good defender and that's always dragged him down inspite of his athleticism/bounciness.

He's too undersized for me. It makes the question of which position to play him at too difficult IMO. Also, energy bigs playing on their first big contract scare me, especially if they're going to an organization that is dysfunctional.

Re: 2020 cheap free agent targets
Honestly if we are debating a guy like Harrell I would rather just try and resign TT to a reasonable deal. We know what we get from him on both a big contract and while playing on a bad team. Granted I think for what we would want to resign him to based on a reasonable deal, he'd prefer taking it with a contender instead.

Unless it was a really team-friendly deal, I'd offer straight one-year deals in excess of market value for anyone we signed. There's just no one on the market who is worth committing real long-term money to.

I'm 100% behind that idea, also something Philly did with JJ Reddick to help bring a piece that they were lacking to their team.

Thoughts on Christian Wood of the Pistons? Looks like he'll be unrestricted. Has good length, he's athletic, can knock down a J, can play a garbage man role. He's never gotten a lot of play, but might be useful if he ever adds enough strength to play C?

I can't figure out what his deal is. I think he might be one of those players who plays well until opposing teams scout him. Every time a team picks him up, the fan base is legitimately excited about his energy play, but as the season wears on, that enthusiasm wanes pretty dramatically.

Perhaps he's low-skilled/low-IQ as well as gets knocked around easy ... but he should be cheap.
