Re: Patrick McCaw is not a NBA caliber player
With Powell out of the lineup, I was really hopping to see more of TD because he has more upside potential. But the fact McCaw consistently gets more minutes than TD puzzles me. Sure TD is new and will make defensive mistakes, but I would much rather see TD make those mistakes in his rookie year so he can get better. There is no guarantee that Fred will re-sign with the Raptors, and to count on McCaw as our backup point guard is a very "scary" thought. This is the time to develop our young talent like TD who has all the tools to become a decent combo guard with a good basketball IQ.
Most people are not arguing the fact McCaw is getting minutes due to the injury situation. What many can't understand is why Nurse would give McCaw A LOT more minutes than TD when TD shows more potential in every facet of his game. McCaw really should be kept in the 10-15 min range like TD is currently getting. I want to see TD getting at least 20-25 min a game since Powell is not playing. When Powell is back, both TD and McCaw would probably not see more than 10-15 min each.
Right now it seems like Nurse is running a basketball UNION. It's about seniority rather a player's talents.

Yup. It's not exactly complicated basketball reasoning to wonder why a 6'7 SG/SF isn't competing for minutes with a 6'4 combo guard (when we have 2 of those already). Posts like this are unnecessary though; your self-realization should be sustained and muted rather than vocal and transitory.Raptorstorm wrote:I don't understand Mccaw's game and offence therefore I am dumb and don't understand Basketball. I don’t get it. Lowry, FVV, McCaw were bad...but what in the world did TD do that people think he gets a pass here? They were all bad tonight. Nobody could hit a shot.

If this guy ever plays a single minute in a meaningful game in the NBA, it will have been one too many.

This is on Nurse. His love for McCaw and new found love of Johnson is getting out of hand. I know we're low on players but these guys are scrub minutes players.

Re: Patrick McCaw is not a NBA caliber player
Its time for Nurse to move on from McCaw. I have probably been one of the more supportive of NN keeping him in the lineup for more than 3 or 4 games, but only because I feel longer looks are warranted unlike some who want to change things basically every game. But that look should end now. Hopefully NN moves on, or at least players should start coming back to make him move on.
Clearly a mistake at this point, its a blackmark on Nurse right now, but he is still a great coach and we are lucky to have him... which just makes this more confusing.
Also, will give Randle a chance to get his life back together if we can take McCaw out.

I don't hate the guy but there's no sensible reason for him to be playing 2-3x as many minutes as Thomas and Davis

Masai must have promised some real playing time when he was a free agent. There is no reasoning why this scrub is touching the court, let alone playing 30+ mins a night.

OG is barely one too at this point. Brissett is already on the same level or even better than him lol

You know you're f***ing garbage, when even your per 36 numbers have you averaging single digits.
Holy I'd take a washed up Steve Novak over him any day of the week.

Re: Patrick McCaw is not a NBA caliber player
I'd have no problem if McCaw was scraping into the back end of the rotation with all the injuries in a small role.
The fact that he's playing 35 and Davis can't even crack double digits is insane. It should be the other way around based on how they've performed this year. Nurse has lost his mind on this one and now SJ is playing too who might be worse. Jeez. He's even in on end of game offensive sets. Like why?!
Play Davis way more (should start with FVV out). Play Boucher some at the 4 more and push OG to more 3. Play Thomas more. These are all logical options.

Im not generally one to question coaching decisions....but honestly WTF.
Davis vs McCaw
PER 14.6 . vs 7.8
TS% . .610 vs .531
WS/48 . .146 vs . .067
BPM . 1.5 . vs . -0.1
VORP . 0.5 . vs . 0.1
ESPM RPM . 3.15 . vs . -1.77
Tonight:
McCaw - 35 minutes (including a dumb late turnover that likely cost the Raptors the game)
Davis - 8 minutes
WTF.
The only way I can process this logically is Nurse is using tough love in order to mould Davis into the best possible player he can be...?

Are you seriously going to blame McCaw for raptors **** bricks tonight? They set the 3rd worst 3 point field attempt % for 40+ shots in leagues history and he went 1 of 4 opposed to the rest of the team going like 5 for 40. Our offense got shut down tonight. Almost eeryone was terrible on offense. U r not going to blame lowry fvv og davis but u r going to blame mccaw for destroying the offense. Yea ok there bud.
Another good game by your boy. Lol

But what did McCaw do to get so much playing time? Is there any quantifiable result that warrants this?

The fact that anyone would defend this is mind boggling. McCaw has no upside. None. Zero. Squint your eyes and you'll still see a damn scrub.
Nurse has some good qualities as a head coach, but we are seeing life without a top 3 player in the NBA. He'll get exposed and won't have "pass it to Kawhi" to save him anymore.

Hate being right in this situation but McCaw is a scrub. Many G league players can contribute more this is sad. Why did he get a multi yr deal. Give it up. Nobody is calling about McCaw, man can't ball. Nobody is asking to throw McCaw in to any deal, he just isn't good. You can't take a pile of shhh off the ground, roll it into a ball and have yourself a game. You're gonna get shhh on your hands and that shhh smells like shhh. That shhh reminds me of McCaws terrible games and has been lingering for half a damn season.

It's definitely not tough love, Nurse puts his regular season W count at priority #1 based on the minutes our best players are getting, even when we're up late. If he felt Davis was the better player in 2020, he would be getting the minutes.
I can't figure it out either, but I'm getting sick and tired of seeing McCaw get big minutes.
