No one ever complained about 82 games being too much until this generation of players started calling into work
Bucks tricked me into being a diehard in 2001, LeBron is the 2nd best player ever, and pizza is awesome.

I hate #2. I want max contracts increased. Fewer players will then be on "max" deals and those that are will definitely not be any more than a big2.

I have to ask.Is there any large number of players load managing outside of Kawhi?Older or newer generation i dont see anyone doing this?I have no idea why this narrative is out there.

We all know Giannis would play 38 minutes a night if he could right?

Did you really just post a lineup with the starting 2 guard being JR Smith?

Our actual management posted a lineup with the starting 2 guard being Tony Snell.

82 games has always been too long. I don't give a crap about the players, I'm talking about the fans. The hardcore fans on this site are a tiny percent who care about the whole 9 month season. A vast majority don't get interested until after Xmas.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I want fewer regular season games so that my hot takes in game threads are more meaningful and less likely to be dismissed with "it's just one game out of 82!"

58 games is way too much of a decrease. Just eliminate back-to-backs and that gets you down to 70-72 games. You can sell it to the players' union as a safety and rest issue, and it won't hit the league's bottom line just because you have say, a couple less random Tuesday night games or noon tip-offs on a Sunday.

I think two vs the opposite conference and 3 vs your own gets you to 72 games. Eliminate divisions. Feasible decrease.

Or 2 vs everyone, 4 vs division goes to 66. But seems like you'd want to diversify opponents more since so few people actually care about divisions. 72 option seems better to me.

Still, I really don't think this option is on the table due to revenue decrease, historical stats, etc.

I get your point but pointing out Sunday afternoon games appear highly valuable post football. Ticket prices are always super high because families can bring their kids and I assume decent timeslot for TV networks to get eyeballs.

Should the regular season even exist? Think about it. I'll hang up and wait for your answer.

I'll take "this makes way too much sense to ever happen" for $800, Alex.

Built-in tiebreakers. Slightly more meaningful games. No back-to-backs. Less maintenance days. Balanced schedules (currently teams play 4 conference opponents only 3 times, and who those 4 are can make a difference). Less inflated records for teams in the weaker conference (picking 9th instead of 3rd just because you played a weaker schedule in the East helped perpetuate conference imbalances for years).

Spitballing of course but when you could actually see a structural change this big could come if/when they add two teams. Doing the math again with 32 teams.

If no divisions you would have 77 games assuming 3 vs your own conference, 2 vs other.
With Divisions of 8 within each conference you could have: 76 if play your own division 4, everyone else 2
69 if play your own division 3, everyone else 2
77 if play all in your conference 3, other conference 2

Again, I'd probably lean towards no divisions, 77 games.

Problem would come in convincing current owners to dilute themselves by adding two teams while also decreasing game income. But, the extra total number of games by having two more teams could make up for it as well as two new local TV contracts. But, I don't want to do the math on total number games for the entire NBA in these scenarios to see how much give/take. Guessing off the top of my head I actually guess there would be more total games played.

82 games but after each game the loser must execute a "dare" of the winner's choice
