What’s your trade deadline home run?
It does appear for the time being that the FO realizes this team is dead in the water. Even Casey stated that the Griffin injury “gives us a direction”. Moves are coming, though it’s not clear how big or how many.
What would you consider a home run for this team heading into the deadline? By that, I mean, what do you think the best realistic outcome for us is in terms of moves? No pipe dreams here, what’s the best thing or set of things that you think could realistically happen?
Be as specific as you feel like being, this is a sort of informal thread. You can state exact trades or just broad strokes. Just want the pulse of the board and what our expectations are. A few things to consider:
Who gets moved? What type of assets do you want back?
Are you willing to take on longer salaries? Under what circumstances?
What types of moves should NOT happen? Who must or should be kept in your eyes.
I’m also curious to see if people’s attitudes change AFTER a move is made. I wonder how many would have favored the move we made for Blake BEFORE we made it.

Re: What’s your trade deadline home run?
Rose for whomever + 1st rounder
Galloway for whomever + 2nd rounder
Dre for whomever + 1st rounder
Whatever filler has to be taken on to make salaries match includes no contracts that are longer than 2 years, i.e. expire after the 2021-22 season
That's a grand slam. I'm not overly concerned with who the players coming back are; promising young players would be nice but the draft picks are the goal. Rose and Dre could both be those "over the top" pieces for a contender, i.e. starters who fill an immediate need. Galloway could be that "strengthen the bench" guy.

Re: What’s your trade deadline home run?
Losing Rose makes this team much worse and locks us into a top 6 pick. I think with as well as he played and the fact he's locked into another reasonably priced year next year makes him worth a decent pick. He's going to be great for whatever team trades for him.
He's worth an expiring plus a pick in the 16 to 20 range... If its a better team that trades for him or if we take on two years of salary we might even be able to get a two late firsts in the 25 to 30 range.
Drummond is really hard to gauge his value and interest around the league being a FA. He's put up great rebounding stats and has improved his FT shooting and offense a bit, but he is still really TO prone and hasn't proven to be a winner. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wis worth less than Rose. He technically still fits the age group of the rebuild if no team is offering at least a first rounder for him we should probably keep him and try to get him for less money moving forward. He isn't someone to just dump for the sake of dumping and take a 2nd rounder for him.
Morris has been shooting well from outside at 41+% and would likely have more interest now than he did over the summer. We need him with the Blake injury but at the same time, if a pick or even a swap for a younger player who might need a change of scenery comes along I think you move him with the direction the team is going.
Galloway I'm fine either way as he is 28 and could be a good locker room "vet" guy if he is willing to resign on the cheap. Same goes for Snell being 28 and the fact he likely has zero interest he can stay on the team he seems to be a hard working team player that is unselfish and would let the young guys develop.

Re: What’s your trade deadline home run?
Trading Drummond to Atlanta for Parsons, Reddish and the Brooklyn pick would be successful. If we can get some other combination of an expiring and young player/draft asset from another team for Drummond that works too. I’d be hesitant to take back an expensive long-term contract in exchange though, regardless of the asset.
Trade rose and Galloway for pretty much any asset, similar to our Bullock trade last season. For Rose, I think we can probably get a better young prospect in return, especially from a contender.
That sets us up to make us worse for the rest of the season, improving our draft odds. If we can land a top 4 pick, and Brooklyn’s pick is in the 15-17 range, then I think we’re in good position for a proper rebuild.
We’d then have a good amount of cap space in the offseason. I’d look at taking on some bad contacts in exchange for assets, similar to how Brooklyn operated for the past few seasons. Then we can start next season with a retooled roster and a healthy Blake to help lead the team. We’re not going to be able to trade Blake or get our money’s worth from his contract, but hopefully he can still be a solid player and help the young guys develop.

Ideally? Rose for a mid-late first rounder. Kieff for a second.
If possible, dre for a mid first rounder. If not, just hold on to him and see how free agency plays out. 28 million in cap wiggle room can be turned into late first rounders, so there isn't risk there. I'm willing to keep dre at the right price and I don't think the market is going to be that great for him.
Only take on longer salary for decent assets. No RJ for salary + a late second rounder - type trades.

Flip Dre and Rose for a couple of firsts.

Re: What’s your trade deadline home run?
Rose/Snell to Nuggets for Harris/Porter Jr
Drummond to Knicks for Morris/Knox/DSJ/2021 Dallas 1st
Jackson/Thomas to Thunder for Schroder/Bazley
Couldn't find a decent Galloway trade, but its not a bad thing to just let him expire for some cap flexibility.
Nuggets do first trade because they are kind of thin at PG and Rose obviously helps them go for a ring. Harris' contract is a year longer and like $7mil more annually than Snell, so they shed a good amount of salary. Its all about getting Porter for Detroit. They can also try to sell Harris being a hometown kid to the casual fans.
Knicks do the 2nd trade because they are sick of striking out in free agency. Having Dre's bird rights all but makes it a lock he signs with them. Detroit gets a solid SF prospect in Knox & a late 1st next season. Also reunites the Morris twins keeping them happy for the ROS, until they both leave this summer.
OKC swaps Schroder's 2 year contract for Reggie's expiring, Detroit gets a decent prospect that some of us liked going into last draft.
Enough money is saved with the above deals to safely waive Frazier/Maker to get to the roster limit of 15 and stay below the tax.
DSJ/Schroder/Bone
Brown/Kennard/Harris/Galloway
Sekou/Knox/Svi/Bazley/King
Porter/Morris/Griffin
Wood/Morris
Drummond to Knicks for Morris/Knox/DSJ/2021 Dallas 1st
Jackson/Thomas to Thunder for Schroder/Bazley

1. Rose to Milwaukee for Indiana's pick & Donte Divincenzo
or Rose to the 76rs for 1st round pick and Matysse Thybulle
2. Drummond to Atl for 1st round pick , Chandler, Reddish
or Rose to the 76rs for 1st round pick and Matysse Thybulle
2. Drummond to Atl for 1st round pick , Chandler, Reddish
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Yeah, for whatever reason Morris never hits my radar in the trade discussions. I very rarely watch much of the games anymore and when I do it seems he’s never playing, so it’s like I’ve forgotten he’s still on the team.

He hasn't played in some time. He was terrible as a starter but able as a bench player.

Re: What’s your trade deadline home run?
Rose should be able to bring back the best return with him being locked up next year on a cheap deal.
Getting a 1st for him while also causing us to lose our beat scorer/closer is a win win in a tank move.
Drummond im not sure of his value bit even then hes not gonna carry us and we could look into sign and trades worst case if everyone just wants him for nothing right now.

2 realistic trades I want to see:
Parsons/Reddish/BKN pick for Drummond
Rose for Kuzma/fillers
Parsons/Reddish/BKN pick for Drummond
Rose for Kuzma/fillers

Supposedly ATL balked at a Reddish for Dre ask. Well if you believe randoms on twitter.

Nope. Obviously ATL fans want to have their cake and eat it too. If ATLs front office actually balks at that then I hang up and don't take anymore calls from them.

Atlanta dodged a bullet. Why would a young, mediocre-but-improving team trade a top-level rookie with untapped potential for an 11 yr. vet with swiss cheese in his game who's seeking max money? Makes no sense at all.

He's played well, but he's got a recent injury history and is...injured.
Probably need to manage expectations there.

Sarcasm aside, pretty sure Dre doesn’t have 11 years in.

I mean we'll take Reddish in hopes he can become something but hes really bad. Definitely worst starter in the league right now and was the same in college.

Because, ATL is loaded with rookie contracts and is about to have another top 4 pick on top of that. They desperately want to start winning and Drummond is the perfect fit for them. He fills their biggest position of need and fixes their biggest weaknesses. He is also a perfect mix of being a proven veteran and a player who is plenty young enough to be part of their rebuild, which they are almost done with. Drummond is also most likely not getting anything near the max based on recent reports. One estimate was between 20-25 mil which is more than worth it for an 18/16/3/2/2 center, especially when capspace is not a concern at all. By the time their new rookie coming in is ready to get paid Drummond will be expiring.
Also, we are taking on a significant risk as well. If BKN slips out of the playoffs, which is definitely possible with Irving's injury status, we no longer would get the BKN FRP but instead 2 SRPs in the future. Also, yes Reddish has a lot of potential but has not shown it in the NBA or even in college. He is faaar from a sure asset. Drummond is the most sure thing in this deal and is far and away the best asset. No way in hell I'm giving up Drummond for potentially 2 SRPs and an expiring. That's a joke.
