I’ll go to the grave thinking that Gores pushed the Griffin trade, not SVG.

One fascinating part to Griffin’s contract is the in the final year, there will be some awesome trade scenarios

SVG actually showed alot of restraint and stuck to his word of not giving up the future for a win now move. It was just towards the end and a playoff mandate from Gores i feel that made him finally have to try and do something.

He was winning trades up until that without really losing anything.

Yeah SVG was actually killing it with trades for most of his time here.

I hear you - someone I know who knows things says it was Gores. And breaking down that trade, specifically at that time (Pistons were 8th or 9th in conference at the time), it was just so terribly lopsided that it didn’t fit SVG’s pattern. Throwing millions at Langston Galloway.... that fit his pattern. But not the Blake trade.

Gores has had the playoff mandate in place since buying the team and as a SVG fan I do believe Gores wanted the trade.

As you just said: almost every single trade SVG made we won. Traded very little to get back quality. Took advantage of other teams.

Here he got owned!

I miss the days of the annual “SVG fleeces Rob Henigan” trade. I also thought the first two years of SVG were exciting - he was building and you could see it. The Build a Wall” game, the unfortunate Jennings injury, the trade for Reggie, then Tobias...... Stan just couldn’t help himself in free agency!

Brandon Jennings achilles derailed what was quickly becoming a very good reboot of the team by SVG. How different things might have been...

That team was going nowhere. Jennings was playing great and all, but this is a stars league and we didn't have a star. That going to work team was the lone exception in about 40 years of uninterrupted star dominance. And when we won that way, the league changed the rules to make sure it was about impossible to do again.
