This is along the lines of what PIF had suggested in the Johnathan Williams thread.
Frees up a 2 way for J with an H. Or some other PF who can rebound and play defense. I hope.

Not according to http://www.82games.com/1920/1920WAS.HTM. They have him far behind Mahinmi. Who's eyes should I believe?

With AP on the court the Wizards have a +10.0 net rating. With him off they have a -14.6 Net Rating. A big difference of 24.6 in 231 minutes.

I wouldn't put too much stock in those on/off numbers. First of all, it's a small sample size. And secondly, with Brooks' weird rotation, our 2nd unit is unquestionably better than our starting unit. Our best 3 active players at the moment are Ish, McRae and Brown, and they all play on the 2nd unit. Of course the better unit, while playing against opposing 2nd units, is going to look better than our horrific starting squad playing against opposing starters.
That said, I'm not hating. The guy has real promise. He's extremely long, he has good feet, and he's not afraid to mix it up and get boards. He just needs to develop a perimeter shot and refine his post skills and he'll be a rotation player.
I'm a little curious why we're in such a rush to ink him to a standard contract though. As a 2-way player we have RFA rights, so he's not going anywhere. Why utilize a roster spot when we don't need to? Perhaps we think we're going to need him to play longer than the 45 days that he is eligible to be loaned to us from the G-League. And if that is the case, then that suggests that Wagner is going to be out for a long, long time.

FWIW, 82games.com has him with a -0.3 overall; -1.9 worse offensively and 1.6 better defensively. http://www.82games.com/1920/19WAS17.HTM

Really?
I'm not so sure. His advanced stats are nice because he plays in Houston's system where literally all he does is camp out in the corner and shoot 3's. A whopping 86.4% of his shot attempts are 3's, and about half of those are from the corner, and literally all of them are assisted. There really isn't any indication that he can do anything else on offense.

Did you watch him in college? His college numbers were amazing. This guy is a very versatile defender, a guy I wanted to draft a couple years ago. He is primarily known for his defense. He will be a rotation player for sure, just didnt have enough opportunity.
