Going to be interesting to see if the Chiefs can pull this off this postseason or not.

There was a time in 2006 when everyone called Tony Dungy and the Peyton led Colts the biggest chokers out there. That postseason the SB happened to be in Miami (like it is now) and everything went the Colts way to give them homefield and the Pats knocked out the biggest matchup nightmare for Indy (the Chargers).

So.....the nightmare happened and the Colts came back from 21-3 in the AFCCG at home vs. the Patriots and went on to beat the Bears in the Super Bowl in Miami giving those dudes their rings finally.

We'll see if it can happen for KC or not. KC has a bad bad history and so does Andy Reid. They are going to be in every game though since Mahomes is that special. In a way last postseason the AFCCG game was decided by the coin toss winner. Pats got it and won, you didn't want to give it back to the Chiefs.

Speaking of 2006 though that was a missed SB for the Pats too due to a lack of weapons on offense yet again.

My understanding is that they would have $13.5m in dead cap on Brady if he isn't resigned, and would then need to go sign another QB on top of that. Short of finding a superior FA QB for $10m or less (LMAO), or rolling with Stidham and eating that $13.5m (also LMAO), pretty sure Pats would take Brady back in the $23m range. If Brady can blow that $23m figure away in free agency (a third LMAO), then they would have to make a tough decision, I guess.

That dead cap hit is coming regardless if he’s not resigned prior to his FA. If they re-sign him before, they can spread it over the length of the new deal— if they dont, theyre paying it regardless. He cant logistically take an FA tour and return.

Tom Curran summed up the situation pretty well:

Now, because of salary cap machinations the team engaged in last offseason, there’s an extra $13.5M hanging out there that needs to be accounted for with Brady’s deal.

The team has until free agency begins on March 18 to give Brady a new contract; otherwise, the $13.5M will count against their 2020 salary cap. And that’s regardless of whether or not he re-signs here after free agency begins.

So if Brady goes out, tests the waters and gets a one-year offer from someone for $25M, matching that would mean Brady carries a $38.5 million cap hit in 2020. That’s 19.25 percent of the projected $200M salary cap for 2020.

If the Patriots sign Brady to a one-year deal for $25M on, say, March 17, half of the $13.5M in prorated money hits the cap so the cap hit is $31.75M — 15.875 percent of the cap.

I’d start prepping yourselves for the possibility thatTB moves on. Its not definite, but id put the odds ataround even money. Still think theres a good chance he re-ups on a 1yr/25M deal, but if he wants to test FA, itll be incredibly hard to keep him.

If he comes back, expect for us to trade for an elite WR like OBJ. Cant see him coming back to that pathetic group of weapons we had to end this season.

I know, but... psst... teams tamper. Brady will know his free agency worth before free agency begins. Hard to see a scenario where that $13.5m cap hit *plus* cost of adding a replacement QB improves us, on the field or on the books. It certainly doesn’t facilitate the goal of adding an OBJ. I’d say it actually makes it more difficult. My guess is that no one steps up with some massive offer and Brady is forced to take 1 year, $23m or so.

I wonder if the Texans' obsession with trying to be the Patriots will make them fire O'Brien in order to sign McDaniels? Also Caserio is not under contract, with several other coaches and FO staff.

Holy **** the Astros punishment. Also, Cora is going to be out as the Red Sox manager when they're done investigating what happened in 2018. He's looking at a multi year suspension, at the absolute least. I'm really hoping we don't lose as many picks as Houston did...

He deserves it too if all this did happen.

Just stupidity.

Agreed, they need to clean house with the coaching staff.

The one thing that may help the Red Sox is that the league monitors the video room during the playoffs. But Cora is personally *****.

History books material.

Cora just destroyed two franchises that have been dominating the last 5 years. Crazy.

It really is history books material. One of the biggest stories in sports history IMO.

Not a chance he is suspended for any less than a season, and even only that would be surprising.

The Woj of baseball says that Cora is gonna get a “far longer” suspension than the Astro’s guys cuz he was the mastermind behind it in Houston. He was then in charge of the same **** in Boston.

He’s gone. Far longer than a year really can only be one thing...

Great to see that the Red Sox and Patriots are both currently thriving.

Sigh.
