Reading all the details, Alex Cora deserves a 5+ year suspension if Hitch got 1 year.

What a wonderful last 24 hours to be a Houston fan.

I am ready for spring training now.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

The Astros punished the Astros more than MLB did. Just fired Hinch and Lunhow.

It seems kind of weird that they are acknowledging that Houston cheated, but are basically saying it had no effect on the outcome of the various series they got caught doing it in... Even though, it clearly did.
Seems like if you fine, ban, etc the team, you have to go in and adjust the record book too.

I've yet to decide on this punishment fitting the crime. I think it fits, I certainly wouldn't advocate for lesser punishment.

Im also curious if there is suspicion that others did the same or similar. We're talking about 2019 here, people been trying to steal signs for like .... ever. That's why they're so sneaky with the signs.

perhaps after reading further I'll have a change of opinion.

I also think it's kinda weak that the team itself can simply fire all those involved and go on basically business as usual this season.

and no players will be punished?

We chatted about this over lunch, we figured that at minimum 20 guys, up to 40+ were aware that this stuff was going on from players, coaches, the dude in the outfield, etc. Some of those players left the team(s) during the course of the season along with call ups that went back down, etc.... and Nobody blabbed? (well, at least 1 did right? not sure how this was discovered)

But then, from a devils advocate view, how can you be SURE that an individual batter was involved, is the banging sound when they are in the box enough for the assumption of guilt?

I think in a perfect world you'd get the players too... But calling it a systematic thing with the Team is fine too, as long as you punish the team. It seems like MLB is more interested in trying to minimize the blow-back and dare I say, protect the betting industry? So they came up with a solution that looks decent on paper, but really only effects a handful of individuals, while basically leaving the Team and it's Brand ultimately, unscathed... They basically came up with what they thought of as an adequate number of Patsies and let them all fall on their swords...

I mean, this clearly changed the outcome of a freaking World Series... It would seem there would be nothing more catastrophic than that... But guys are getting worse suspensions by violating the substance abuse policy.

Sooo you can cheat and keep your prize. Awesome.

Astros should be stripped of their title. Pathetic. At least their title forever will have an *

The world knows they cheated to get it. Sad.

If they aren't going to vacate the 2017 title... They should refund the $36.2M in "Competitive Balance" Tax the Dodgers paid that season.

Why does a catcher need to tell the pitcher what to throw anyway ?

This franchise's reputation will never recover. They may have to change their name when all is said and done.
