Giannis
LeBron
Harden
Luka.
Giannis seems to have it on lock, but LeBron could have a chance if the Lakers finish with the best record in the league. Think Luka is pretty much out of it given Dallas' record, and Harden is iffy too since Houston is barely holding on to home court right now.

KGtabake says it all and i couldn't agree more on this. The best players in the game will always be those who can impacting the game both ends of the floor and Giannis is the best on this right now. enough said..

Take away the 7 footer lopez and what do you have kompo at? He's overated on defense because there is always someone there helping him. He dont even lead the league in block, steal, or rebound. Just because he can rebound that doesnt mean hes a great defender, take away lopez and his overrated defense will go to the bottom.
Also, capela is better than Kompo at rebounding and blocking.Re: MVP Discussion [19/20] [part II] - voting opened

Are you serious now? Defense is far more things than Blocks, steals and rebounds. The biggest part of defense is how well you guarding your opponets and how good are you by helping your teamates on defense. He was one of the best defenders in the league even before Brook Lopez came to the team. At this point i will say that you just a hater and is more than obvious this when you keep calling him Kompo..

The guy literally is the best rim-protector in the league by a substantial margin (39% DFG allowed) according to the numbers, and yet you still have contrarians trying to say he's "overrated" on defense. Some of you are trying way too hard to drum up drama and talking points here.

Doncic should not be 2nd, I think Harden has a better case than him, and his team is slightly better.

Lol he is not even close to being the best rim protector in the league.

He literally is. You can take the numbers with a grain of salt, but I'm eagerly awaiting all of this evidence and statistics that say otherwise to him being a DPOTY level defender. Instead of the usual "lol" and opinion-based garbage.

Giannis is not even top 100 in DFGA in less than 6 feet, which means he shouldnt even be considered a rim protector and its a joke to argue otherwise. He has less DFGA than guards like Garland, Danny Green and Joe Harris.
Even if you go by effiency alone, theres also 6 players with a better DIFF% than him(min 2 DFGA).
8 players have a better DFG% than him(min 2 DFGA).
In fact, Brook Lopez is a WAY better rim protector than Giannis. He defends the rim way more per game(7.4 vs 3.7, literally 2 times more), better DFG%(41.7% vs 44.6%) and better DIFF%(-18.1 vs -14.9).
He is a very good help defender and thats it.

And the league(media) give him all the credit for it. Once again, Kompo is pretty overated on defense thanks to his peers.

He's an elite rebounder, elite at playing the passing lanes with his athleticism and length, defense goes from great (104.8) to historically great when he's on the court (100.3 points per-100 poss.). Leads the league in DWS and individual DRTG. "Elite help defender and that's it" is hilarious. Every box and advanced metric paints him as elite in basically every aspect of defense.
Guy made All-Defense 2nd team as a 22-year old with Jason Kidd as his coach and Greg Monroe and John Henson as his starting Centers.... What a dumb argument to suggest anything about his individual defense is "system" based.

James Harden right now has double the DRPM of Anthony Davis.
AD is overated on defense and I will take hall of famer post defender Harden over him any day of the week.
It's clear who are the hall of famers DPOYs this season.
Lebron, Alex Caruso and Khris Dunn.
Top 3 in DRPM by a wide margin.
Don't trust your eyes guys. It's all in the statistics.
In fact I know for sure that the coaches advise their players to attack AD, Giannis, Kawhi and Gobert in every opportunity because it's the smart play.

Current Vegas MVP odds
Giannis -163
Doncic +500
Harden +500
Lebron +750
it's pretty much a race for 2nd at this point barring an injury to Giannis.

DRPM isn't a great stat, more of a reference point I guess than anything we can really go off
this is Giannis' award to lose, Luka runner up. everyone else is not in the convo.

As of the morning of January 14th
14.0 Antetokounmpo
13.9 James
13.7 Harden
12.0 Gobert
11.2 Doncic
11.1 Butler
10.4 Jokic
9.5 Lillard
9.1 Leonard
9.0 Davis
The Bucks have played three more and the Lakers have played two more games than the Rockets, while the top three players are still close enough to rearrange themselves in a single game.
The Jazz have won 14 of their last 15 games, and Gobert has been the biggest reason. Although his value as the two-time DPoY is never best seen in box score stats, he's put up 15/16/2/1/2 on .664 FG% over those fifteen games.

2 years ago Giannis almost had 2 blocks and 2 steals per game. Now he's under 1 for both. I think this is influenced by Bud and Brook. He doesn't need these stats for great defense and he avoids foul trouble.

Lol let's not go overboard now. It's Giannis' to lose, but both Harden and Lebron are clearly in the conversation, and if the vote was today they'd be the clear favorites to go 2/3 (I am positive they would go 2/3). Granted, I like your interpretation of the voting better.

Anyone who has Harden over LeBron should uppercut themselves. Same with Luka.
It's Giannis then a big gap.
