Wow, SGA with 20 pts, 20 boards and 10 assists. That's impressive. Jahlil Okafor with a huge game too. 25, 14, 5 assists and 3 blocks.

Love me some Bridges but if that supposed trade up for SGA worked out instead, it would've been so sweet.

Kings with a last second loss to the Magic. Blazers won by 3 so we dont gain ground on them. Also, Grizzlies play Rockets tomorrow and Spurs face Heat the next day. We must need to take care of business the next two games and could be within 9th or 10th seed.

It would be so nice if we could have a box score for our starters like either of these teams did here... https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=401161254

You just had to link a Doncic box score didn't you... :banghead:

I swear this takes the cake, far beyond anything that has happened to this franchise, as the absolute worst thing to happen since Donaghy and Stern in 2007.

Doncic is ridiculous. He can be the best player in the history of basketball. He is not even 21 yet. :banghead:

And what about Trae Young ...oh my, a Nash/Curry hybrid :banghead:

This meltdown is hilarious.

Not sure how a no defense player can ever be the best player in the history. Barnes scored on Luka whenever he wanted.

Even with no defense Trae and Luka will probably end better players than Nash, but it's still the same tier.

Luka no defense? Are people still believing this anonymous scout from Gambo stuff? He's not a good defender, but he's neutral and hauls in a ton of rebounds. but his offense blows all but handful of NBA players out of the water. It's not like he's Booker level on D.

His drpm is a negative number, so he's definitely below average. I believe his dprm is helped by his rebounding stats, so his non-rebounding defense, per sunsbg, is probably bad. Just my guess, i am not 100% confident on how that stats work to be honest. Though I am of the camp that rebounding is a part of defense. So overall, I don't think his defense is atrocious by any means.

I think the bigger issue is his insane usage and the toll it will have on his body. I can't remember anyone having to carry the same amount of load this kid had. It's quite impressive, and unheard of it. He's being asked to not only be James Harden-ish in usage, but to bring the ball up and rebound at an impressive clip. The kid gets wrecked in the paint pretty often as well. Rick Carlisle is a good coach, but he's really taxing Luka. I wonder if this is going to lead to a shorten career.

Ditto for Porzingis. I am annoyed that Rick is having Porzingis playing 31 mpg after his recovery. It blows my mind.

I was looking at these player ratings...

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-nba-predictions/mavericks/

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-nba-predictions/suns/

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-nba-predictions/hawks/

Now he's not positive on that end, but close to neutral, and this as a mid second year player who has more time/room to improve. Plus he is bigger and plays with more heart. Anyway, he is still not nearly as bad on that side as people thought going into the draft, and I guess some think now. And not nearly like Trae or Book.

Why believe scouts when you can watch games ? Luka's always defending the worst opponent's player and those still blow by him in many cases. Even Rubio in the Suns game. In the playoffs one would expect better coaching will force switches so he's forced to guard the star of the other team. It's only logical you test this big body chasing quicker players around the screens. From what I have seen he's pretty bad at it. Not sure what is making him any better a defender than Booker honestly. Actually the eye test based on the effort Devin displayed in some games suggests he has a better potential on this end. Maybe the empty rebounds show in the advanced stats, I don't know. The guy had 15rbs and I don't remember a single one of them, mostly an indicator of the kind of defense he plays and stat hunting than anything.

He's an offensive superstar though. Still Mavs offense is a bit predictable with such ball dominance from a single player. Interesting to see how they do in the playoffs. I expect some high TO games, but we'll see.

Most probably ends on Harden's level career-wise. Yeah, he's better in earlier age, but this usage and not so good body shape may also mean earlier decline. I would bet on the guy in Milwaukee having a better career.

You're eyes obviously tell you what you want to believe. You've said before you don't think Bridges is a good defender. Booker has been a sieve on defense for 5 years. Luka is already a near neutral defender.

I have seen both bigs and small players do well against Doncic. Your opinion is 100% stats based as in many cases. You said in another post you have not watched Mavs games. Eye test + stats will tell the true story, but I prefer the eye test. I'm spending enough time on numbers in my job.

As for Bridges, I said he's a good team defender, puts effort obviously, but I have yet to see him shutdown a good offensive player.

I haven't watched a lot of Mavs games, but I know a number of knowledgeable Mavs fans and do a lot of reading of the top analysts. You seem to have a very limited concept of NBA defense. Few players shut down opposing players on their own. Most defense is ability to switch, help and play team defense. 1 on 1 defense is a very small part.

People really light up all of our players except maybe Bridges on a routine basis. But the best players don't really get stopped by anyone. And a lot of guys get hot from 3 and it's rare anyone shuts someone down from getting hot from 3.

Ugh, wanted SGA, Young, or Fultz. Crazy that we went without a PG for two seasons!

I said he's a good team defender, unfortunately there is no such thing like team defense in 70-80% of RS games. OK, let's pretend great individual defenders never existed and watch how Bridges can't stay in front of Doncic. That's probably why a fan of his liked your post. Need to see him at least stop players on game deciding shots as he's failed on three occasions that I remember.

This is a legit issue for the Mavs especially with the amount of assets they gave up and percentage of the cap he'll be for the next 5 years.
