Steve Nash? Chris Paul? Please… The stock is an all-time great.

In honor of the jazz current 10 game win streak… Enjoy.

One of the toughest, dirtiest, consistent, smartest, reliable and durable players of all time.

I think he would actually better in this generation of basketball than he was when he played. He would be a more durable, and less prickly (at least towards his own teammates) version of Chris Paul.
Why so serious?

What makes him overrated?

1st all time in steals?
1st all time in assists?
1st all time in double doubles via points and assists?
10.5 assists per game lifetime?
Only missing 22 games in 19 season?
Making it to the playoffs every one of those 19 seasons?

Did I miss something?

Can't dunk like Iverson
Can't cross over like Kyrie
Can't shoot from half court like Dame

Too many things Stockton can't do, not sure whats the hype with this guy :P

There is also lots of evidence of people saying John Stockton set the hardest screens of all NBA players back then.

One of the most underrated players ever
(In response to the one saying he was overrated)

Couldn't agree more, he is especially overrated here on RealGM (mainly) due to his longevity.

I mean look at his stats he posted in elimnation games:
https://elgee35.wordpress.com/2010/12/21/john-stocktons-elimination-game-failures/

The guy was regularly outplayed by contemporary PGs in the playoffs, such as Kevin Johnson, Terry Porter, and even Kenny Smith.

Well, on the other hand, they wasted all those years on him just to win nothing. So maybe the booing was right.

It's weird that he only includes 1991-1998. Stockton was All-NBA each of the three seasons before 1991 and made the playoffs all three seasons, too. Why not include those seasons to give a more accurate picture? The first explanation that I always start with when it comes to Elgee is: to make Steve Nash look better. Dude has a serious Steve Nash fetish. I say that without having looked at Stock's 88-90 elimination games. It's just suspicious, is all I'm saying.

As an old Blazer fan I saw an awful lot of Stockton and he was a killer.

20 years, playing with a top 10 big in the 80/90s and only two finals appearances. No titles. And I don't recal him being a "killer" in the playoffs.

The general consensus is he was a better player than Zeke, in fact "pass first point guard" was terminology specifically created to make it appear he was better than Zeke. To justify him being on Team USA. Never before in basketball was "pass first point guard" a thing before 1984.

So that is what makes him overrated. The fact that he never got hurt and played in a system in which Deron Williams basically produced the similar stats is ok I guess though.

Ridiculous take.

Stocktons is a legit hall of famer and your sour grapes don’t change that.

He made the dream team ahead of Thomas and he deserved it. No one wanted to play with Thomas.

Out of all his impressive stats, of which there are many... his durability just blows my mind. The fact that he played that many years with so few missed games is nothing short of incredible. The dude was tough as nails. Pound for pound he's got to be one of the toughest players to ever step on the court.
