New York Knicks: F
I mean, I don’t really know what anyone expected here after the offseason mudslide that ended with seven different average-to-above-average power forwards showing up at Penn Station. But whatever even the most true-hearted, least-jaded Knicks fans could have reasonably hoped for...this season hasn’t been that. The Fizdale firing felt inevitable, and whatever comes next in terms of leadership changes won’t be a surprise, either. But when the headlines are trumpeting 30-year-old Marcus Morris as a potential part of the team’s future and you’re 11-29, and somehow still holding onto the pipe dream of enticing a star free agent to join a mostly-barren roster, you’ve got bigger problems. On an equally sobering note, R.J. Barrett’s PER of 10.41 is just a tick higher than that of Kevin Knox (10.34). I‘m not trying to inordinately bash the Knicks, I just genuinely don’t know what anyone can do to fix this.

His reasoning for the grade is pretty weak.

He should have left out RJ and Knox completely as the jury is still out on them, but other than that...

Obviously there's more to be said, but he's still on point with what he chose to say.

I sure do wish THJr was on the team so he could be out there with RJ, with THJr at SG, RJ at SF, Morris at PF and Randle at C.

I figure RJ would wind up with about 3 FGA per game.

Nice Steve Mills impression

There has never been one post where someone wished THJ was still on the team. This is a desperation heave

Sure is enough fawning over his game.

He's just not that good. He's a replacement level NBA player, who is overpaid.

At least another team is smart enough to have it's coach limit his game

This is basically proof that LaMelo could be a solid pick (if available)

There were questions about Ja's jumper. (obviously it's not as weird as Lamelo's)
There were questions about "talent of competition". Well, I'd assume that the Aussie League is like Div1+
There were questions about Ja's build.

The last one is worth expanding on. It's an issue that has come up, in one form or another, over "skill" players deemed either not tall enough, physically slight, or maybe a step slow.

Trae Young - kind of small. Maybe not physical enough. Maybe not athletic enough for his height. This are all things that were said in general and absolutely said on here.

Luka - there was that weird discussion about the height of his jump and explosiveness

Ja - there were worries about his jumper and also some talk about his sleight build, along with the competition level.

I'm not taking anything away from these players. It's just that the NBA has tweaked the rules towards offense, inhibiting defense, and encouraged 3 point shooting, which had the result that was intended, though it took 30 years - to emphasize shooting, and by that open up the floor to allow skill players to flourish.

Obviously Ja and LaMelo don't bring the outside shooting game that Trae and Luka do, but they'd still benefit from the wide open space and pace of the NBA game. Well, obviously Ja already has.

Long way of saying that certain athleticism or physicality isn't as important as it was, or that for very skilled players with the ball, who can create, it's less of an issue. And LaMelo has height. Sure, he's by reputation not a willing defender, and he's skinny as hell, but to the 2nd point, who cares? He's tall. It's not like 95% of todays guards are going to post him up anyway.

Anyway, just using this as a reason to talk some more about LaMelo. This stuff applies to Haliburton as well, who isn't that brolic either. It just doesn't matter as much anymore - at least for skilled guys.

Kristaps would be a fairly tall towel boy but that might be how he can help his team most.

Ja is actually shooting a higher 3pt% than Luka and Trae, he’s over 40%. Much lower volume but it’s good that he makes the most of his looks. Also I believe LaMelo will be a better shooter than his percentage showed in the NBL. LaMelo is a better shooter than people think

Anyway, tank for LaMelo

Real story, more than the injury which is Dolan Trump’s focus, is that Dallas seems about the same without him. He doesn’t add a lot, certainly not Max value.
