Looks like his foot is really bothering him, which sucks. He was playing way differently before this pain showed up.

It's a damn shame. He was looking so good to start the year.

He shouldn’t play back to backs.

Makes me wonder if his foot is that much pain if GH will pull an Andrew Luck and retire early.

Certainly does not need the money.

Such a shame, that injury was Nasty. I still think Crowder intentionally put him down....

NBA Teams are also not protected in guaranteed money when this happens which I also think should be fixed.

GH super nice guy but seems to be a role player now.

Or maybe he loved the game of basketball, opts out and signs a nice 4/60 bench player contract.....

I will be real curious what happens after this season

He's a better passer / point guard than anyone else on our roster, he's never been a dominant scorer (maybe in short stretches), and I'm not sure he has ever been the type of guy to get himself going. When we signed him, there was a Jazz fan who came here talking about the Jazz had designed their entire offense around him and he wouldn't necessarily be as effective in Boston. We don't need to design our offense around the guy, but we do need to make some effort to involve him more and put him in a position to succeed. He needs touches early in the shot clock, it's more important than making sure our Center sets a pick away from the basket IMO.

Short of injury, if he can't contribute a lot more than he has been contributing, it's all on Brad IMO.

I don't know if it's his foot or coach's decision, but 7 of the 8 games with his lowest usage came since he came back from the foot injury. 3 of the 4 with his lowest usage, we lost recently (@PHI, @WAS, @MIL).

So either rest/load manage him or use him properly whenever he plays. During his last season in Utah, only 5 of his 73 games had sub-20% usage. He currently has 10 of his 24 above 20% with the Cs. And he's only shot below average TS% in two of those games. One was the Spurs game he had to leave due to hand injury.

He performs well (and team does too) when the ball goes through him. Same issue as last season but less pronounced since there's no more Rozier and Mook. He should however handle the ball more than Wanamaker when both of them are on the floor.

Not complaining, but just to compare... Tatum has never had a single sub-20% usage game this season. This is his team now. But with his raised usage came a dip in his efficiency. Understandably so.

And when you put it like this - he should probably be coming off the bench again. Start either Cobra or Grant to set a more physical tone (and play better defense), and put Gordo in charge of anchoring our bench.

I think it's time to move Hayward to the bench. Has to happen imo. Wish we could get Favors somehow.

Yep.

He’s becoming a liability to the point where moving your max player to the bench looks like a smart move and there’s still folks on here apprehensive about trading him. I don’t get it.

I don’t believe you Gordon. I think it IS the reason for your inconsistencies. So just stop lying to me, I’ve been sounding this horn for a bit and want so very much to be right!

This is what I don’t get. I’ve been a big fan of Hayward since he got here. I’ve been patient with him. I’ve been happy with his progress after the injury. I knew this year he would become about 90% of the player he used to be in Utah. And he was off to a good start this season and was getting back to being the player he used to be.

Then about 6 weeks ago something happened to his leg again that wasn’t talked about that much. He hasn’t been the same player as he was at the start of the season.

Now Hayward is coming out and finally saying the leg is bothering him somewhat. What I got get is why are the Celtics playing him on back to back games? Why not rest him and get him as right as possible before the playoffs?

Bingo.
Finally the truth leaks out.
His inconsistency since returning from the hand injury IS INDEED consequent to chronic intermittent neuropathic pain consequent to a massive traumatic ankle injury 2+ years ago.
I definitely think there is also a mental component due to PTSD related to the injury.
VERY tragically & sadly, I do not think either of these things is ever going away.
He will be up & down for the rest of his career.
He should be load managed like Kawhi to maximize his value while he is still with us.
He definitely will not opt out this summer & his trade value is zilch.
VERY SAD.

PS He might even pull an Andrew Luck if it gets worse.
SamIam 2010: Truth's ability to play so incredibly efficiently is so UNDERAPPRECIATED. Bballcool 2012: Amazing how great Pierce has been for so long. Continues to defy age! KG 2013: P is original Celtic. Wherever he goes, we go. This is The Truth's house.

I think Hayward will be fine. They have to manage his times and sit him on back to backs for the next month or two.

Nice solid game by Hayward with 22, 7 and 7. Yes he missed a key layup on a job and didn’t shoot that well and physically he looked fine.

He is just a guy that doesn’t have great confidence at times.

Fans need a fall guy. He's the easiest target due to his salary.

Production isn't as bad as people make it sound. His scoring is understandably down, being 4th in shot attempts and usage behind Kemba and Jays.

Numbers definitely lie. Right now Hayward is a gain 13 yards on 3rd&15 type of guy. Yes his stats look good but this man fails the eye test miserably.

That being said he should not be the fall guy. His role is to be the icing to the cake. We need the other 3 guys (the Jay's and Kemba) to be more consistent. If they play well everything Hayward does is icing.
If you want to trade him you have to give a reasonable option. Do you want to extend Drummond? I wouldnt .
Who is out there to be had?

I personally would love Tristan Thompson, but wouldnt trade him for Gordon.
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

That blown layup and the end was so Gordo.
