2020 Draft Thread

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Mon Jan 20, 2020 7:24 pm

Let's talk the draft here. I was thinking to just keep draft talk in the off season thread but let's see if separate threads works out. Here's Treebeard's post from the off season thread to get things rolling.

Let's use this thread to talk about specific players instead of general positional needs.

I desperately want a game/field position changing WR

AJ Brown and Deebo Samuel are fantastic, we need something similar. Additionally, Blake Martinez is a great, try hard Jeff Adrien of tacklers, but the dude is not a playmaker and always dragged 3 yards on every tackle. Don't make the mistake of resigning him, find the next and better version of him

Offensive weapon - I'd love Ruggs, highly doubt he'll be there for us.

This team with more speed on offense would be incredible. Sternberger is going to be the breakout target next year. I truly believe that. Add a KJ Hamler or Jalen Raegor to this team and we are infinitely more dangerous.

Also need to address the MLB position. Patrick Queen, Malik Harrison, Jordyn Brooks are all options I'd love to add.

Going to need a tackle or two to develop. Mathew Peart from Uconn I think could come in behind Bulaga for a year or two and take over.

And I'd love to draft a mid-round QB to develop behind Rodgers. I'm telling you now, if Kellen Mond comes out this year, you could have a chance to get him on Day 2 or 3. If he goes back another year I could see his stock skyrocketing.

Look at this dudes arm! His footwork is good too and imagine the things LaFleur could do with this kids wheels.

Tee Higgins and Kenneth Murray fit those positions and one of them could fall to us.

I would be curious to see what Quintez Cephus as a 5 rounder would look like in Green & Gold.

If you guys like doing mock drafts, Draft Network has a pretty in-depth one that I play around with once in awhile. https://thedraftnetwork.com/mock-drafts

Here was my first mock:

At WR draft a shifty fast slot guy. No big tall possession types, they have that covered and I'm not sure a pure deep threat type would be the right kind of guy for Rodgers at this point in his career.

I actually like our depth at CB. Jaire became a star, King was healthy and can only get better and it looks like Gute found a diamond in the rough with Sullivan. I think Hollman can creep up the depth chart. Only real question mark is when will Josh Jackson show up? He's shown great ability on special teams, but I need more from a second round pick.

Jackson doesn't have the flat-out speed of some the receivers he's covering, so he's gotten hooked for some infractions, trying to slow them down. I think that's limited his progress..

Only draft WR if he has some insane speed (Get AJ Green on the cheap), but I would like us to get Jonathan Taylor in the 2nd.

I'd go LB, OL, DL heavy.

Shenault is the guy I’ve seen in our range in mocks that would help us the most. Probably a stretch that he’d be there though.

ETA: Reagor is my backup option.

That’s how I felt at the beginning of the season but not now. Jaire isn’t a star, king wasn’t that good, the mix of the young guys haven’t shown much- Sullivan. I think there’s talent in that top 5 but I they haven’t shown much.

I'd guess the NFL book is out on Alexander and King - and they're still learning to counter how opponents game them. It ain't college anymore where pure athleticism is sometimes enough. I dunno for sure, but it seemed to me that King had spots where he seems to be "getting it", followed by goofs. Alexander, IMO, after a brilliant start last year hasn't stepped ahead yet. He's still the best the Packers have, but there's room for him to improve - he's got a high ceiling.

Jeremiah's first mock was today and had some interesting stuff.

Mekhi Becton (OT) at #4 is a guy I haven't even seen mocked in the 1st.

Tristan Wirfs (OG) at #8, meaning he thinks he's a future all-pro guard.

CeeDee Lamb (WR) at #12 and Jerry Jeudy (WR) all the way down to #15 is an eye raiser.

Patrick Queen (LB) at #19 is a name I haven't seen in the 1st. He isn't even on ESPN's list of prospects.

He's got the Packers taking Laviska Shenault Jr (WR) which might be the best case scenario for GB.

Stage for the draft is going to be out in the Bellagio pond and players will arrive by boat.

Who is going to jump in? I feel like a player will try to.

Dude is a beast! Runs a huge route tree, can truck you/burn you/lineup in the backfield. I remember his game vs Nebraska it was good.
