Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part IV
Simmons needs a team that has 4 perimeter shooters for him to succeeed. Ideally the team should have 1 PF who can defend as a center and small foward and two shooting guards. His game will work in regular season but not sure it will be successful in playoffs given he will not shoot beyond the arc. After 3+ seasons we can all agree ben will never shoot beyond the paint.
Embiid will be successful with a regular point guard like CP3, Luka, Harden who can generate offense from perimeter and not clog the paint. Given Embiid injury history the team will always need a backup as he will never play more than 50 games in a regular season for 30+ minutes. His body is too brittle and not sure he can play all of the playoff games without injury if it becomes 7 game series.
We need a different coach to salvage the situation now as brown has no answer to fix the offensive issues. Heat exposed the problem and other teams have taken notice how to stop the sixers. Brown is clueless and should be fired.
I believe in hindsight 76ers made wrong choice in draft in 2015, 2016,2017,2018. They wasted so many FRP on players who never materialised. They went cheap in hiring the medical staff, coach and Front office.
Imaging if they have drafted the following players
2015 - Kristaps Porzingas instead of Okafor
2016 - Brandon Ingram instead of ben
2017 - Tatum instead of fultz
2018 - SGA instead of smith.
we would be looking at a championship.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part IV
I will say this. If there is any way at all for the Sixers to get Karl Towns without giving up Embiid + Simmons, we need to do it. They can have everyone else. Locking in that star trio would inevitably lead to multiple chips, as all 3 are true superstars who provide surplus value over and above their MAX contracts. We'd just need to surround them with 2 3&D guards.
They can have Harris, Thybulle, Horford, and everyone else.
Likely the only slim chance is if Harris really turns up his game to the point where he can be the main piece going back, so they can sell it to their fanbase that they are getting back an all-star caliber player.

Re: The Ben Simmons Megathread - Part IV
Towns has more trade value than anyone on our team. I would do any deal for Towns that except for a trade where its embiid and simmons for towns.
If its a just a one to one swap of embiid or simmons plus other assets then we would easily be a better team. +7 or higher BPM players who are just 23 dont grow on trees.
Towns plus Butler and a group of awful contracts was the 3rd seed in a killer west and he was only 21. Also you dont have to worry about his durability and he is headed to be the greatest shooting big man of all time.
Dont let Towns playing for the biggest joke of a franchise that failed to make the playoffs with a prime top 15 player of all time in KG fool you. He's an AD level star.
I remember last year people saying they wouldnt trade embiid for ad and that embiid was better due to team record. Well look at how team context applies now hes no. 1 in the west and so clearly better than embiid or any other big. Towns would be considered a top 5 to 10 player if he was on the sixers instead of embiid.
Its a shame we dont have anything that would entice minny to get him home.

It is impossible to "entice" a team to trade away a player like Towns. The opportunity will come once he gets disgrunted with losing and wants out, which I asssume will occur in 1-2 years. At that point you just have to make the best offer.

Nothing personal, but the Captain Hindsight What If X Team drafted the true best player at their pick in every season argument is futile and flat out dumb. Also I can tell you weren't around in 2015 because Porzingis' camp wouldn't give Hinkie the time of day that June which wasn't just well known around this forum but around the league.

I don't think age is relevant. It's development trajectory that matters. Simmons is flatlinning on his development trajectory. His contract could be absolutely terrible in the coming years. If someone offers us an out while swapping an equally talented player with a more desirable skillset, we gotta jump at that opportunity, IMO.
Disagree 100%. Ben Simmons is playing the best ball of his career this year. Once he starts shooting open outside shots, he'll get even better.
Most teams would kill for him. His combination of production and pedigree will make him an extremely valuable asset for years to come.

I dont like Ben Simmons. But I love this team.
And for me, Biid has to adjust for Ben and this will be better for him and the team.
Biid has to play more off ball, less post ups and most spot ups. Think KAT on offense. Then funnel all the saved energy on offense to defense.
The key to win the championship is Ben. If we can make him a 20ppg scorer, for me championship is a near cakewalk.

I used to be like you. I didn't like Ben but loved Embiid but ever since last season and the Jimmy trade I have grown to dislike Embiid and like Ben.
Embiid has shown me he is an incredibly selfish player. He complained about touches and his scoring being down after we traded for Jimmy even though we were winning more. He was incredibly immature in the Raptors series and got shot down by a 34 year old Gasol on his last legs after being shut down by a 32 year old Horford also on his last legs in the playoffs a year ago. That's not a good look for the self-proclaimed 'most dominant player in the league'.
The last straw was the whole fiasco with KAT and the immature incoherent social media rant he went on after. That's despicable behavior for the so called face of the franchise.
He has failed to adapt his game in 4 years and has somehow become a worse jump shooter since his rookie year. He still makes low iq decsions on the court and still can't beat a double team even though everyone can see it coming from a mile away. He still is 20 lbs overweight from his rookie weight and fails to keep his conditioning in top shape.
Ben has a flaw that isn't his fault. He can't shoot and wasn't born with shooting touch just like his rim running counterparts in gobert, capela, deandre, and dwight. He can be in the gym for the rest of his life and still won't be a decent jump shooter in my opinion. However, he is mature with the media, doesn't engage in stupid social media banter, carrier himself professionally and never calls out his own teammates in the media.
Embiid is probably better than Simmons right now but he's older, far more injury prone, far less professional and his game is regressing from his rookie season.
I would much rather hitch my wagon going forward with Ben than Embiid and it's clear as day that this pairing isn't going to work long term on or off the court. When players don't fit on the court and don't like each other that much off the court that is a ticking time bomb. Luckily for me the front office agrees that Ben is more important to the long term future than Embiid.
ffs Jokic has better conditioning than Embiid you would think he would be ashamed of that.

This post oozes with so much irony I am legitimately wondering if it's a troll attempt or someone from Simmons' camp.

Prior to today’s epic win Simmons was named Eastern conference player of the week.

It's quite obvious what's going on. Ben not being a lock for an all star game is going on a rampage to show the entire league how effective he can be without a shot. Good for you Ben. But do it when it counts. In the playoffs. And do it with Embiid on the court too.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

The 76ers are in a tough spot, and pickprotection
does raise some valid points concerning Embiid's shortcomings, in particular about his lack of professionality and his fitness issues. I don't think anyone believes Embiid's body will hold up long-term term, and while he is defintely the more impactful player than Simmons at the moment, I can understand why the front office of the 76ers would prefer Simmons over him.pickprotection wrote:..

I don't know what the FO is thinking, no one here really knows. That's why I wrote "would", and considering the Horford signing it does suggest they are not fully confident in Embiid's health moving forward.
