I would love Harkless back for 5-7M, but ideally Ariza plays well enough to make that not necessary. I really like the gamble of Hassan and possibly an asset for Hayward. He has played well this season, and 77% of his time has come at SF. Slot him in at SF, with Ariza as the 3/D compliment, and this team looks much better.

the end of the line. Hood is going to be a question mark from his ACL and its very likely
Portland will make a move with Whiteside and we don't know how that will impact this
team moving forward.

Norm, Hood tore his achilles tendon. He didn't injure his ACL.

I would fully get behind that trade. Hayward seems to be rounding back into shape.

Lillard
CJ
Hayward
Collins
Nurkic

Could be a good starting 5, although that's a 113M for 5 players next year, although I can care less about Jodi Allen saving money...it would be strange to not have Lillard be the highest paid player on the team.

I do think we'll see some type of trade with Whiteside with another placeholder type of center
coming back that gets Portland out of the tax.

Thursday night's game with Dallas is going to be an interesting game. I'd be interesting to see if
Dallas has any interest in Whiteside with Powell going down with torn Achillies. NBA front offices
are notorious for working with particular front offices and Portland has made a number of trades
with the Kings, Mavs and Nuggets.

No Achillies injury is good news but I suppose some torn Achillies injuries are partial while a rupture is
not. Let's pray Rodney has a partial tear.

Yeah there are grades 1-3 for strains to tendons or muscles. A grade 3 strain is a full tear, also known as a rupture. On the espn team page it says he had a ruptured achilles. So grade 3 achilles strain.

Bazemore played 16 minutes for Kings tonight and Tolliver was first player off bench.

the Kings are also 15-29, 2nd to last in the west, and on a 6 game losing streak.

Only one game, but I’m already more impressed by Ariza than I was 40 some odd games of Bazemore. Maybe I didn’t give the deal enough credit by saying it was a wash talentwise.

I think the biggest benefit is Jody saves $15M. It looks like a wash talentwise to me. Blazers wouldn't do the deal if the season were not a disaster. The disaster had nothing to do with Bazemore. Although, Bazemore's offense was not as good as I expected. Ariza's offense or defense isn't going to be better.

One thing I noticed about Bazemore is he was always looking for open court opportunities and nobody else on the team had the same idea. Maybe our half court iso players clashed with Bazemore's style.

Blazers have 2 new trade exceptions as a result of this trade.

Trade Exception (Caleb Swanigan, expiring 2/7/20) — $1,740,000
Disabled Player Exception (Rodney Hood, expiring 3/10/20) — $2,859,000
Trade Exception (Jake Layman, expiring 7/8/20) — $1,790,993
Trade Exception (Kent Bazemore, expiring 1/21/21) — $7,069,662

Also, there is this:
6/30/20 — Trevor Ariza’s $12.8 million guarantees for 2020-21.

Otherwise, the amount Blazers owe is $1.8M. It doesn't say, but this looks like an option. IOW, Blazers don't need to waive Ariza. We can just decline our option by 6/30. We have cap space to resign him up to 125% of his previous salary.

Also, there is this:
2020 — Owe second-rounder (top-55 protected) to the Brooklyn Nets (Mo Harkless, Joe Harris, Richard Jefferson, Jeremy Lin).

We might get our 2020 2nd round pick back because it's protected.

How has Ariza been for you guys? I saw his first few games he did well but haven't paid attention since. Bazemore has been really nice for us, he moves a lot on offense and hes a very solid defender..

Thinking arizas length and spotting up all game on offense is a better fit for Portland.

Ariza's been performing much better for us than Bazemore that's for sure

Ariza has been a great fit. Exactly what Portland needs at the SF potision right now. Length, defense, and can knock down an open shot.

Unfortunately for Bazemore, Portland was forced to play him out of position at SF due to the insane amount of injuries that happened this year. If Portland was able to play him at the SG position in the second unit, like I think he was expected to play coming into the season, he would have had a much better year here. Once he was asked to guard starting SF's and cover for the defensive shortcomings of CJ and Melo in that same starting group, he was destined for failure here. I'm glad he's fitting in well in Sacramento. Seems like a really good dude.

Portland's #1 need for some time is a SF who can handle the ball, shoot and play defense with the
defensive shortcomings with Dame/CJ. Ariza is a much better fit than Bazemore but at 35, he's
only the short term answer.

Actually, Bazemore has all the skills Ariza has, plus Bazemore can handle the ball and is a better playmaker. Bazemore didn't shoot up to his career norms while here.

Ariza has definitely been a better fit, which means we don't need the extra ballhandler and playmaker. The addition of Melo might have a lot to do with this. And, Ariza is more used to playing off of ball-dominant scoring playmakers.

SF for some minutes is okay for Bazemore, but SG is better for him. I like him on the run and on the move. Set shots from 3 okay. Not so much otherwise. Ariza, at this point in his career and with his game and size, is a better fit for what the Blazers need. He could be back next year, but it’s a short term thing. Same with Anthony.

Little’s development and Hood’s return are of longer term significance.
