I'm wondering if he's going to get a max contract from someone.

You guys are kidding right? I thought Z looked horrible out there. His big run was being left alone for 4 3s, a shot he just isn't going to hit at a good rate for years, a shot he had blocked that he got back and laid in.

I really expected him to look like a far better athlete out there.

Aside from just the shock of a bad shooter hitting 4 3's in a row, the quickness with which he recovered from getting blocked to put it back in was the only super impressive part of the game yesterday. Glad he didn't end up finishing with an awful line, but he definitely didn't look as good as I had hoped. Obviously just his debut though; I still think he's a bonafide star if he stays healthy.

I pretty much agree and I don't think he's nearly the prospect he's been hyped to be. He looked like he was straining to run out there and he's clearly carrying too much weight. He'll be as good as his body allows him to be, which leaves a pretty wide variance for him: he could be Sportscenter Wet Dream or he could be Rodney Rodgers.

EDIT: And The Ringer comes through with an eminently Ringer headline. Must as well just rename the whole venture Tigerbeat But For Sports.

Obviously he's not in game shape yet. I don't know why anyone would think he, or anyone coming off surgery, wouldn't need time.

But with his body makeup there will be an injury concern until he can put together some full seasons.

I mean, isn't the fact that defenders are already giving him the young Lebron treatment (sagging back and crowding the paint) an indication of just how good a young player he is? People keep saying that Zion is getting too much hype, but for a 19-year old to play relatively "unimpressive" and still put up 22/7/3 on 11 shots in 18 minutes in his first NBA game (coming off an injury no less) sure as hell makes me believe that he deserves all the hype. He still seems to have this weird reputation that he's nothing more than a freakish, undersized athlete who just dunks.

It was worse than watching Embiid labor up-and-down the court. Hope Zion and NO's training staff can find the right fitness/diet regiment to prolong his career, but I'm worried.

Overall I agree with your point though even the stat line is a bit skewed, it was still only 18 mins. While I think the media obsession/hype is too much, none of that is his fault and it doesn't mean he isn't one of the better prospects to come out in the last chunk of years. And this is coming from someone who has some skepticisim on the 'all time great' level of hype due to the issues you pointed. He has one of the highest floors (barring injury) of almost anyone who's come out other than LBJ. the key to actually being all time great or top 5 player in the world will be expanding his game beyond the paint as at 6'6 he won't be able to crap on everyone at the rim like Giannis does. That's where I have a bit of the 'pump the brakes, let's not get ahead of ourselves and put unrealistic expectations on him' type of thoughts. Really hope he sheds some weight though so he sticks around a while.

It’s not that the Mavericks should trade Porzingis. The 24-year-old is a key cog to their defense and brings offensive value with his deep shooting range. They might not be able to find an acceptable trade even if they wanted to, considering he’s been hurt again and is not playing up to the five-year, $158 million extension he signed this past summer. That salary also complicates his place on the Mavs. Before the season, it was tempting to view Doncic and Porzingis as the new-aged version of Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki, but what if KP is actually the Chris Bosh to Luka’s LeBron? Or even the Brook Lopez to Luka’s Giannis Antetokounmpo? Bosh was and Lopez is an important piece of the championship puzzle as a defensive presence and complementary offensive weapon. What complicates matters is that Porzingis has been far less durable and successful on the court than Bosh and makes more than twice as much money as Lopez.

The Mavericks could use their own Dwyane Wade or Khris Middleton to lighten Luka’s shot-creation workload.

There has never been a time I believed Porzingis would stay healthy or live up to the hype. Classic case of displaying tremendous skills and unique physical gifts several times a game while also having a terrible motor that keeps him from coming anywhere close to living up to his potential.

I don't even think I'd trade Khris for him, due to the injury risk and the fact that Khris is finally playing like the pre-injury version of himself the Bucks so desperately needed. I think playing over the summer might have helped Khris stay in a little better shape than usual. I think he might have seen some ways he could adapt to the increased capabilities of his teammates when he sat out earlier this year too.
