Morant looks like he can be a top 3 point guard for 10 years
Zion is a generation prospect who has the hype of dominating the nba for a decade
Rj Barrett looks like a multi time all star but won’t be a top 5 SG/SF. But will be a multi time all star
We have a guy with potential. We just don’t have the guy who looks the part of superstardom

A DeMar Derozan type of career?

In a sense yes. The guy who’s an all star. A guy every team would take. But on his own won’t will you to a championship. However I am a firm believer that RJ has the mental makeup to be a #2 on a championship team. If his jumper takes a drastic jump then it changes everything and I think he can be a go to guy on a championship team.
But if his efficiency only improves somewhat then I think he’s capped.
It’s not a terrible thing though. There’s so few true Carry the load type of players for their Career
Paul George/ Derozan / kyrie and countless others that as the main guy. They can’t get it done. But as a running mate to another star. They can.
I think RJ is that guy who can be big time. But not truly elite

I still have a lot of confidence that RJ will be at the very least a really good Robin, his make up is not like Frank's or Knox, it's pretty obvious he wants it, but it's pretty remarkable how we haven't gotten a superstar potential type player via the draft. We had the 2nd worst record in the league in 2015 by one game(we beat the wolves, who ended up with the worst record in the nba and got towns) and got the 4th pick in the draft. we haven't risen up in the lottery since 1985. we've either stayed in the same position, or fallen down in the order. there's some seriously **** **** going on.

You’re missing a couple seriously major things here.
First, the OP was correctly pointing out that the Knicks decided to build a roster that does not focus on RJ Barrett or his strengths. For example, RJ’s scoring shot up to over 18ppg during a recent 6 game stretch with Morris and/or Randle out. The OP is correctly pointing out that the franchise isn’t committing itself to building around RJ like a “normal” team would.
Second, the Knicks have shown little historic interest in lottery picks and have rarely been in serious contention for a top pick.
This season, it appears once again we’re poised to become buyers (or holders) at the deadline, jeopardizing our position as favorites for a top 3 pick. (We’re currently tied for 4th worst and the new odds drop significantly for the 5th-8th worst record.)
A normal team wouldn’t have signed both Randle and Morris a year after drafting Knox and Barrett. Nor would a normal team hold veterans past the deadline when it’s currently tied for the highest odds for a top 3 pick.
Alas there’s nothing normal about the Knicks. Abnormal mfkers determined to make us suffer.

I'm not missing that at all, I've pointed out that the front office's ineptness in constructing a roster around their 3rd overall pick, in the past.
I've also done the math on the knicks and their lottery allergy for the past 20 years. I just find it odd that a team like the cavs, or the pelicans can get multiple 1st overalls in less than a decade, in some instances without even the worst record in the league. it's just really strange.

Somebody posted the history in another thread recently, but the Knicks haven’t been in the lottery much for the last 20 years. The Cavs and Hornets/Pels always suck and always guard their picks. You site 2015, which also happens to be when we traded our 2016 FRP for Bargnani.

Then why do you find it strange that we never win? We haven’t had many chances.

there's more to it than just having a lot of chances. the cavs had 3 number 1 overall picks in 4 years, and 4 number 1 overall in 11 yeas. We've had 3 lottery picks in the last 4 years, with 2 having a bottom two record, and we've gone down in the order both times.
bro, I'm not about to defend the FO. I've showed you that I don't disagree with the sentiment, I still find it strange how rotten our luck has been.cgmw wrote:Marty McFly wrote:cgmw wrote:

Sure the Cavs got outrageously lucky, but they also put themselves in position to get lucky over and over.
Look at the Cavs vs Knicks right now. They are running their offense through Sexton and Garland, while he have a FO who fired their handpicked coach because they demanded playoffs. The same FO is probably declining trades for future picks because they’d rather commit to veterans. Cleveland would dump Love in a heartbeat for future picks.
Which team do you think will end up with a better chance of a higher pick?

it's amazing because he walks like a fat guy, he waddles like a penguin, but all of a sudden he has these bursts of speed.
