I was excited when Calloway wanted to try something new like bringing the closer during a tough spot rather than just the ninth inning. I don't think he even attempted that during his tenure here.

I remember that. Nope he did not.

I remember a game where we were down two runs in the 9th inning with two pinch hitters due up, one for our weak hitting catcher (I think it was Rivera) and the other for the pitcher. The best two PHs that we’re available were Devin Meseroca and I believe Jeff McNeil (when he was only hitting singles and walking back then).

So, you’re down two runs, you have a table setter in McNeill and a thumper in Meseroca, so logically you’d want to PH McNeill first and hope he can get on base for Devin, right? But not our genius manager. He hits Meseroca first who proceeds to hit one out. Now we’re down 1 run with McNeill coming up but made out and that was it. That was one of the few times I can remember actually screaming at the damn radio.

And that's why I was leaning towards an experience manager for this year. I just want a consistent lineup, keep the rotation fresh with a few spot starts and the most important thing... managing that bullpen.

Our lineup and rotation is pretty much set. It's the bullpen that we need help in.

Yeah, me too. Especially in NY. But Rojas is getting a lot is support. I’m sure he’ll make some mistakes. Hopefully Muelens stays on.

Right, I'll hold judgement until we see what he does. It's stupid to come out and place your allegiance on someone. I am fully supportive of Rojas but he needs to keep Muelens. Muelens has good experience under his belt and can guide Rojas.

I think Boston is interested in Muelens. :noway:

I read somewhere that the Mets only have 2 players in the top 100 prospect list? This might be coming from mlbpipeline

Can't wait to read Keith Law's top prospect list on TheAthletic.

Yes but Mickey saw McNeil eating his spinach earlier that day and had inside information.

I just saw that they have 4, but all in the lower half of the top 100 list.

Starling Marte traded from the Pirates to the D-Backs. The Pirates were trying to gauge us because of Brodie's weak reputation as a trade partner based on his track record so far. And fck the Pirates too.

From Metsblog.com

"But the Mets made a really aggressive push for Marte right after the new year. They were willing to offer some prospect talent, and perhaps some major-league talent, but those conversations ended pretty quickly because they came away thinking the Pirates wanted a couple of top prospects or Brandon Nimmo or a Dom Smith. So honestly, at that point, I know there was some Twitter stuff the last couple of days about the Mets and Marte. But this thing died on the vine weeks ago because they were just asking for what the Mets considered to be too much."

Although the Diamondbacks reportedly traded only INF Liover Peguero and RHP Brennan Malone -- Arizona's Nos. 18 and 8 overall prospects, according to MLB Pipeline -- the Pirates apparently wanted more from the Mets for Marte.

Look at all the weight Familia lost. Pretty impressive. He was definitely out of shape last year.

Didn't even recognize him. Without reading the comment, I initially thought it was a video of the 99 mph throwing Venezuelan mentioned in the post above.

The article mentions he dropped from 270 lbs to 240 lbs but he looks even thinner than that to me. Even when he came up, I don't remember him being this thin.

Hope it has an impact on his success this year.
