Re: Trade Thread Part Deux
The Celtics maintain interest in trading for Washington Wizards big man Davis Bertans, Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix reported Friday morning.
Boston isn't alone, however: Mannix reports the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets also have expressed interest in Bertans and names the Philadelphia 76ers as another team that could covet Bertans' shooting ability.
It's possible Washington doesn't even deal Bertans, as NBA executives told Mannix the Wizards "wouldn't even discuss" trading the 27-year-old forward.

[Shams] Less than two weeks from the trade deadline, the Pistons’ market on center Andre Drummond seems to be stagnant. Three teams that have inquired with the Pistons — Atlanta, New York and Boston — are believed to be bypassing further pursuit, sources said. The Pistons’ asking price of a first-round draft pick or a quality young player has not yielded a quality offer yet, according to sources.

The laser is gonna cost 15 million next year. Not sure I wanna pay that but I do like him as a player and I believe u get his bird rights. Id love to see the spacing he provides the team and even mess around put him on the court just as a 5 with kemba, Jaylen, Hayward, Tatum for **** and giggles.
Also nice salary filler for a trade down the road and skill set that’s always coveted.

I'd give up the Bucks pick for Drummond and I don't even like Drummond that much. Matching salaries is the problem, I wouldn't want to give up anything inside our top 8 man rotation for him.

The Drummond thing is more important for what it means— one of Hayward/Smart is not untouchable. Based on other reports, it seems like Ainge has offered Hayward in deals. Just something to note.

Zach Lowe speculates in his most recent podcast that he thinks the Pelicans will look into sell trades soon. Also noted that the Pelicans quickly went to Zion at center which makes Favors future with the team curious.
Still think I want a Hayward+picks for Favors/Redick

What a crock of feces. It's not about disaffection. It's about the fact that Harrell is an unrestricted free agent in June and just hired Rich Paul. Trez is a terrific player but I doubt if Ainge wants to pay him either.

that's about as smart as Joe Johnson for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers to win 5 more wins and make the playoffs in a year where we had no chance at a championship.
Same thing.
Does Hayward and picks for Favors/Redick put us in the finals with a chance? No.
Does it clear up space to make a big move next year to do the same? No.
Does it give us better assets for trades in the future? No, and big No.
I'm all for any trade that improves any of those 3 things, or at least doesn't hurt any of those things. Like if we trade some assets for the Lazer, and then retain him, it could be a move that moves us closer to a championship. This trade does none of the above.

Heres the alternative:
Hayward opts out and leaves this summer or leaves the following summer in FA.
A Kemba-Tatum-Brown-Hayward core, with all re-signed, will cost way too much. One of Hayward/Brown will be off the team in the next two years, and my vote is Hayward. Trading for good players isnt a negative.
Based on the rumors of Ainge calling on Drummond, I’m guessing he votes the same.

Trez is a guy who’s going to get well over 20M a year next season. With Kemba/Hayward/Brown/Tatum locked up, it wont be from us. He’d be a strict rental and I’m good on rentals that wont result in a title.

The ONLY way Hayward is traded is if he publicly asks to be traded. This will never happen...

Minny out:
Dieng and Covington
In: Kanter, Green, Edwards, McConnell Boston First
why?
Save money and add youth and a pick
Indiana out:
Turner, Lamb, McConnel, McDermott
in
Dieng, Hayward, Bucks 1st
why? better fits with Sabonis. Dieng is a superior floor spacer and will do better parked in the corner than Turner. Hayward gives another team first guy who is unselfish to play with them. Most unselfish team in basketball will be the result.
Boston out:
Kanter, Hayward, Edwards, Green, 2 firsts.
in:
Turner, Lamb, Covington, McDermott
Boston upgrades the team.
Kemba/Smart
Brown/Lamb
Tatum/McDermott
Covington/GWilliams
Turner/Theis
backup PF is a little light, but Grant as a 10th man aint so bad (once timelord is back it will be between him and Grant as the 10th man)
Turner, Covington and McDermott would be ideal, but not sure if Indiana wants to give up much for Hayward given his player option. Hayward makes them better, but still not a title contender this year.

DRose
Iggy (why in the world was Valancunas playing with his team down 30 to us ??! It did give grizz an extended look at Poirier v JVal ...just saying
Tristan Thompson
IT4
These and maybe other more under radar (with regard to availability) types of players are the possible additions for DA to pull trigger on
DA will make a move!

So why did Ainge call on Drummond then?
A call and actually placing GH into ANY trade are 2 very diff things. What's more, there are other ways of matching salaries. IMO if Ainge could work his way up to 25m in non core maneuvers, Aldridge would be the target not Drummond
I would keep an eye on TThompsom. That threshold is only 16m

Ok, in my scenario, we do no trade, Hayward leaves for nothing, we keep our picks and hope we get a late round gem like Siakam.
In your scenario, we trade for 2 stop gags, they leave in free agency or old age, and we don't have picks to swing for the fences.
If you said Hayward straight up for Favors/Redick because you feel Hayward will opt out and leave, I'd say it's a wash and Danny would have a better feel for what Hayward wants to do than we do, but no first round picks in trades that don't bring back something that will stay on the team for a legit championship run. young cost controlled talent is to valuable in todays CBA. this isn't 10 years ago when you could buy late round picks for 3m cash.

I think hayward is worth turner, mcdermott and mcconell. And I think lamb is worth less than dieng.
It would be close. Might need a pick attached.
