Game Thread: Wizards vs Hawks -- 1/26

The Washington Wizards will host the Atlanta Hawks in a Southeast Division showdown on Sunday. The Wizards currently stand at 15-29 while the Hawks are an Eastern Conference-worst 11-35.

The Wizards played well in their last game, a 124-112 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, the Hawks are coming off a 140-111 drubbing at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder’s trio of point guards combined for 63 points against newly-minted All-Star Trae Young.

This game could not be happening at a more interesting time, as only a few days ago Bradley Beal was snubbed in favor of Trae Young for the honor of All-Star Game starter. This means that both players will have something to prove on the offensive and defensive end when they face off.

Is this game going to be played? Awful day. I'm sure Trae is having a rough time with this. I think Gigi Bryant was the daughter who was a diehard Trae fan. Her and Kobe would sit court side and Trae hung out with them at a couple different games. Took a bunch of photos after the games.

Hawks and Wizards honoring Kobe this game by playing absolutely no defense in the first half.

(I'm glad the games still got played today. Sports, at its best, is a welcome distraction. I imagine this was therapeutic for both fans and players alike.)

Bruno had a good statline with the exception of his foul trouble.

The newly-minted All-Star starter was terrific again tonight, and his scoring eruption set a franchise record for most points scored in a regulation game.

RIP Kobe! Trae and the Hawks honored Kobe well with the 2nd highest score in franchise history. Still not believing that he is gone. Kobe's mentoring last summer definitely left its mark with Trae and I believe was instrumental in Trae's ascension to greatness this year. The torch has been passed on to the likes of Trae and Luka for the next generation.
