There is no saddest thing about this, but one of the saddest is that the man won't have the opportunity to give his own hall of fame speech after 20 years in the league. It's really unfortunate and goes to show how fragile life is and how this could happen to anyone at any moment in life.

I lived in Mexico for a while and I lived in some of the tiniest villages you could ever think of, didn’t matter though, I still saw young, indigenous Mayan children shouting “KOBE” when throwing stuff away and playing basketball.

It’s sad it had to end like this. Not only did we lose a basketball legend, we lost someone who was much more. I disliked him as a player but it’s impossible not to love his transition from player, to retired. Prayers for all those who are affected by this. Family and fans alike.

Prayers out to Vanessa man. Losing her Husband and daughter today theres no easy way to come back from that, but she has to be the strong one for her other 3 daughters. Hopefully she will have tons of family support.

As a Nuggets fan who fell in love with the NBA in the 00's, Kobe was probably one of the first athletes I really hated. But his greatness and impact on the game is undeniable. There's a reason so many of these players idolized Kobe growing up and the fact that he seems to have had personal relationships with so many of them is really quite impressive.

Regardless of the fame and stature of anyone involved, this whole thing is just tragic. I can't imagine what any of those families are going through right now.

My generation's MJ. Incredibly sad. The player that really embodied what the NBA was for me growing up. I cant believe how emotional I could be about someone I never met in my life. There has not been one moment of this day that I haven't been thinking about this. RIP.

There have been very few deaths that I have seen that impacted the world like Kobe Bryant's and most of you arent old enough to remember some of them

John F Kennedy, shocked the nation like nothing else in 1963, i was 4 years old

Martin Luthern King in 1968, again a shocking thing.

I think some would say Elvis Presley's death, Michael Jackson's death and 9-11, but somehow they dont seem to be as un-nerving as Kobe Bryant, and i wont go into the whys, because this is about Kobe, his daughter and the others who also died.

My condolences and prayers for everyone, as the rest of all are hurting. Kobe had greatness written on his future like no other person in the last 50 years which is why this Hurts so much

Wow man I literally cried when I heard the news. I used to hate kobe growing up ( I was the biggest A.I. fan) but it was just for basketball reasons ofcourse. But I would never disregard his greatness and killer mentality. If you grew up in this era, this hit different. I am nostalgic of this era, this was literally my childhood. He effected sooooo many ppl and players from all around the world. His popularity was 2nd to none. Everytime we would shoot something in the trash, we would yell KOBE ! This is the saddest lost of a celebrity to me. And to make matters worst, his daughter was there too SMFH I am sick

Kobe was a living legend... This is proof.

Sometimes in life, people don't really know how to come to terms with legends... They are sort of other-worldly...
They aren't always approachable. Or in fact, all that friendly...

But their death crystallizes our feelings for them and clarifies our reaction. In the end it isn't about how approachable, or identifiable or nice they were... It's about the impact they had.

For legends, that impact is greater than even we, ourselves comprehended.

I didn't consider myself a huge Kobe fan, even as a Laker fan. But I knew when he retired, I would miss him. Reading all these posts, it's clear to me, I had no concept of the impact he had.

12 hours later and I still can’t believe it. Worst day ever for me as a sports fan. Work tomorrow going to be awfully quiet as there’s a number of huge Kobe fans in the office. Speechless.. I feel like I’m going to breakdown any moment now.

This really hit me harder than I thought it would. Lump in my throat and on the verge of tears numerous times today. Kobe's a huge part of why I got into basketball and when I really thought about it he had a huge impact on my childhood and growing up. Sports was always something that brought my family together and I just keep recalling the countless memories Kobe created for me and my family through the art of basketball. Thank you for everything, Kobe.

RIP Kobe, GiGi, and the rest of victims in this accident. Sending prayers and much love the the remaining Bryant family and all other parties that were affected.

My wife asked me about that... I thought they reconciled... But I know his parents just sort of sniped at him throughout his career...
They'd reconcile and then a few months later, his dad would say something that made you wonder if they weren't on the outs again.

But I hadn't heard anything about them in a while, since they came out and said all was good.

I'm still shocked and in disbelief. I hated him growing up, but he and I are about the same age, and I began to respect the man as we both got older. He was the last of the fierce and ultra competitive NBA player, and I actually was sad to see him retire. NBA is not the same anymore since then, and it's now even worse after today's tragedy. Today has to be the worst day ever for the NBA.
