Should Jerry West turn over the NBA Logo to Kobe?

I love how the op put no as the first option and then also made this a poll knowing full well ppls bias/hate against kobe in this forum. Goodjob bro.

Well, if people are going to say "golly, he was great and should be the logo because he died", it's fair for others to say "yeah...but..."

Say whatever you want on if he did or didn't do it, it should be clear why his past makes this a terrible idea.

"should" - I don't think he has any obligation to do so, morally or for any other reason. Will he? I think that's a better question. Jerry West is a class act and compared the loss as similar to when he lost his brother in Vietnam. I could see him offering his spot on the logo. Still, I wouldn't blame him if he didn't do so.

No way the NBA does this, unless Silver completely loses the plot -- which we have never seen him do. The Colorado thing would make this impossible even if the emotion was to do it.

It's not Jerry West who decided to be the logo, it was the NBA.

Because of the above, Jerry West really has no say on the matter. In fact, he is on record as saying he wouldn't mind a change (in the past) but it's not up to him.

Honestly, I've always thought Michael had more of a claim to being the logo. But considering the circumstances... yeah, just give it to Kobe. I've seen a couple mock designs and they look almost exactly like the current one, anyway.

Ya sorry, I was speaking in the second person, not referencing you at all. That was definitely confusing. For the record, I totally agree with you!

Also On a side note; the league will never use Jordan’s likeness for their logo on account of the Jordan brand.

To many legal hurdles; anti competition, infringement, etc...

Kobe makes the next best alternative, but not before jerry west passes.

Really though, anyone else that posted that garbage would be suspended and possibility banned, and yet, that slanderous garbage has been allowed to stand without any sort of repercussion. Is there some sort of hierarchy status that I'm not aware of around here? Does tenure and being a mod allow you to post trash that would get other people in trouble with impunity?

It's a little too early to decide these things, but I took a looks at options and the one I came up with that seems appropriate is the league should name the all star MVP award after Kobe - it doesn’t have a name, he’s the career leader in all start game MVPs.

If the logo ever changes, it should be for Jordan or LeBron.

This has probably been covered, but Jerry West doesn't own the logo and the NBA has never acknowledged that it is, in fact, Jerry West (probably to avoid paying him royalties for using his likeness).

So, it's really an NBA call and the answer is that the logo should be Kobe or MJ. The question is: what would an iconic Kobe logo actually look like? He doesn't really have one specific move or 'pose' like Dirk. Kobe mastered pretty much every move and used all of them.
