Is LaMarcus Aldridge a Hall of Famer?

Post#1 » by Paddy Brosso » Thu Jan 30, 2020 9:32 am

LMA has played almost 1000 RS games (and 72 games in the playoffs). He has 2x 2nd All-Nba selections, 3x 3rd All-Nba selections, 7x All-Star games, almost 19500 points, almost 8300 rebounds, almost 2000 assists (averages: 19.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.0 apg).
He was the go-to-guy in Portland for more than 5 years, and since 2015 he has been arguably the most important player in the Spurs. He played 5 playoffs series with Portland, but with little success. The furthest he got in the Playoffs was in 2017 when he played the Western Finals, but the Spurs were swept by the GSW.
Does this great PF/C with an awesome mid-range shoot deserve to be a Hall of Famer? If not, what would he need to do in order to make it? What do you think?

Nah. He needs team success.

I think he's in. How many seven time All-Stars do you know that are not in the HOF?

Easily, yes.

By the end of LaMarcus Aldrige career, he'll have over 20k points & 10k rebounds. 18 players have achieved that in their careers, all of them are in the HOF or will be getting in soon enough. Never mind that he's 7x All-Star & 5x All-NBA.

Mitch Richmond is in with 6x All-Star, 5x All-Nba, 20,497 pts, a career high of 47 pts, and a grand total of 23 playoff games.

Eh, countless of ringless all-time greats have made into Hall of Fame.

I love the guy. He'll probably get in due to his numbers and longevity. Had he played in a bigger market, I think he'd be more celebrated.

Funny enough, I met him at an event in 2012 and everyone looked at him curiously because of his size but not many people knew who he was.

I think the final numbers career wise will ultimately put him in but its to as much of a slam dunk as it should be. I do not so much care about an NBA title if he were to go mercenary for his last couple of seasons, but an olympic gold medal on the resume sure would help. Is there any chance of Lamarcus being on the next American men's roster? He totally should be.

Somehow Colangelo thinks Bargnani is better than this guy.

Bosh is a 2 time champion, Aldridge is not on that level.

He was a bit overrated imo over his entire career, and took more shots than he deserved.
His offensive peak was with Portland while his defensive peak with the Spurs. His stat-padding peak right now.

is he a HOF? I don't know. I thank him for his service. Nothing more nothing less.

Just checked his numbers. He should get to 20,000 points and 10,000 rebounds. That gets him in the Hall.

But he should definitely be in the K.C. Jones/David Aldridge wing, just for people visiting with limited time

Bosh won 2 championships by joining up with Wade and Lebron though. So I wouldn't call that an argument to put him individually above the level of Aldridge.

He was a crucial player for them though. They would not have won without him. I value those who are a part of great collectives more than those who are great individuals.

Without Bosh, Miami Heat would've probably only have 1 Championship (2012)

If Mitch Richmond is in Hall of Fame, then Aldridge should be too.

So far (RM - LMA):

Points: about even (20,5k - 19,5k (and counting))
Playoffs points: LMA much better (449 - 1494)
Games: about even
Playoff games: LMA way more (23 - 72 (and counting) and being the best/second best player on his team)
Titles: Richmond wins (1 - 0), but he had very low impact on that one (2gms, 4 min, 1 pt playoffs in total)
All Stars: about even (6 - 7)
All League: even (6 - 6)
Win Shares: LMA again wins (79,3 + 1,2) - (111,3 + 5,5), as well as BPM and VORP.

So, LaMarcus Aldridge had (slightly) better career than Richmond and by The Mitch Richmond rule he should be in Hall of Fame.

Nope but he might get in seeing how watered down it's become

He does not feel like one, no.

He probably will on longevity and volume, but he's definitely on the outer fringes.

I’m sure the Heat wins those titles too if you replace Bosh with LMA, so the Bosh ring argument is weak. And I’m not saying my argument should make Bosh look bad but it should make LMA look good. I still remember that 1st round series vs the Rockets where LMA played out of his mind for the Blazers, looked like a legit 1st option on a championship team in that series and they knocked out the favored Rockets pretty easily. Thought he’d find a place as a 2nd option on a championship team which I believe he would’ve had Kawhi not bailed on the Spurs.
