Re: Trade Thread, Part 3: The Fun Continues
does anyone know what the salary cap amount is for 1st round picks?
I'd like to see the Celtics move all 1st round picks for a player who can increase the chances for a long run in the playoffs
With all the young guys - don't need anymore picks this year

B. Would we have any option (in structure of same deal or afterward) to flip Whiteside for a different player or package? If it’s Hayward/Kanter for Drummond, Simons, Collins and a 1st.. or you flip Whiteside with a 1st for Randle, or Steven Adams and Roberson.. Then I’d probably do it
I'd love to snag Little or Collins, but not at the price of Hayward. I don't think we're a good fit with POR just cuz we both want to win this year and need non-center (and esp. non-Whiteside) bigs.
Yeah like I said I would only do it if it included Little or Collins, and the return on flipping Whiteside was high enough.. Like, Adams, Roberson, Collins, Simons and a 1st for Hayward is much more favorable..

Would you do Semij for Alec Burk or maybe Wanamaker for Burk?

All day. And we would probably have to include a 2nd, or a late first to get him. I think we could do that. I will have to say though Semi has, IMO, played some of his best basketball in his last few games.

Re: Trade Thread, Part 3: The Fun Continues
It really feels to me like there will be a trade this year. There are a handful of guys in a salary range that we can match on with the likes of Poirier + some combination of Langford/Williams/Williams/Wanamaker etc. plus the five mediocre picks we have in '20.
Bertans/Bjelica/Burks/Covington even Redick if we could get a third team involved and send out four contracts. And others I'm not thinking of right now I'm sure.
Hard to see us sitting on all of:
Langford / Edwards / Ojeleye / G.Williams / R.Williams
#17, #23, #30, #42, #53
Binkies notwithstanding, we just don't need that much youth.
This is definitely one of those times we could stomach an "overpay" for a "roleplayer" or "rental" and not break a sweat.

Langford, had it not been for injury, could of been a top 5 pick. Very skilled athlete still looks very promising.
Seriously doubt Ainge is going to involve him in any trades that net us just a role player.

For an 8th or 9th man in our playoff rotation (hopefully non-expiring), I would give up any combo of Poirier, Edwards, Javonte, Wanamaker, Semi, 2020 BOS 1st, 2020 MIL 1st, any 2nd rd pick. If other teams want more, they can just shove it.
Keep 2020 MEM 1st, Langford, Williams twins.

Kwame brown was a number 1 pick.
Andeea bargnani was a number 1 pick
Hasheem thabeet a number 2 pick
Darko milicic
Etc
Draft choice spot is not a determining factor in a players value

Seems about right. It's easy to forget about RW3 but in 2 years he's going to be a monster.

Trade for Markieff just for the Sixers series...

...and just in case Thompson gets bought out and lands on an East playoff team.

Kanter, Poirier, Semi, Edwards and Bucks pick
to the spurs for
Poeltl, White, Johnson, Carroll
Why?
Spurs move an expensive DNP-CD and a couple of players getting lost in the shuffle. They instead add a center who can start with Demar and aldridge now and some young, cheap pieces. add a pick. The cost to getting off Carrols contract is losing Johnson
Celtics add a center that will work great in brads system along with taking on White and hoping for continued improvement from him. Keldom Johnson is a potential diamond down the road, but the cost is taking on Carroll. But ideally he can excell off the bench in a 3 and d roll. LEaves door open to flip Carroll or trade Brad Wannamaker for bench PF.
Kemba/White/Wannamaker
Brown/Smart/Romeo
Hayward/Johnson/Green
Tatum/Grant williams/Carroll
Poeltl/Theis/Robert Williams

Yup— its better to ‘overpay’ now then end up cutting people for nothing come next season.
As of right now, we have 14 players under contract for next season:
-assuming Hayward is back, either on player option or new deal
-assuming Kanter is back on player option
-assuming we pick up the team option on Semi
-assuming we guarantee Javonte at the minimum
-assuming we guarantee Theis at 5M
With 3 FRPs in the fold, were gonna have to cut at least two people. If we use the MLE [we will], that means we’ll have to cut 3. Poirier is an easy candidate, Edwards is another possibility but it gets real dicey after that. Making a trade that bundles several of our lower tier salaries/picks together in an ‘overpay’ is significantly more attractive than the alternative.

Bjelica has shot over 40% from three point range over the last 3 years. Career 39.5% shooter from three point range. Celtics would be real lucky to get him.

He cant cover a chair and would be unplayable in the playoffs

No one except for Marcus Smart on the Celtics bench can cover a chair. Celtics bench can't score. Bjelica helps with that. I think Bjelica's price is going to be too high anyways.
