[Quick] Nurk has a calf-sprain after returning to practice
Quick said the team isn't talking a ton about it, but Nurkic had a calf reaction to his return to the court. Said the team is being tight-lipped about it, but he may have had a minor setback and the team is going to take it really cautious with him.
Collins is still on track.
He also said that if the team does move Hassan before the deadline, it's going to have to be a deal where a center comes back - especially with Nurkic's semi-setback now. So it sounds like any chance of a Whiteside deal may be unlikely.

Where did you hear that? I don't see any report of it. Also you can't sprain a calf, sprains refer to ligaments.

if its 3-6 weeks, dont bring him back, its not worth it
although 3 weeks from now is after the all-star break when he was supposed to be back

I suspected Nurk had sustained some kind of injury or setback because he was not on the bench.
What else are we to expect from a Blazer big man?
Jusuf Oden.

There is a photo of him from today traveling with the team.

Probably meant “strain”. I have just assumed that weren’t going to get a fully healthy and ‘hasn’t missed a step’ Nurkic until next season. I’m a little disappointed, but not surprised.

if he had a significant calf strain I don't think he'd be traveling on the plane and he would have crutches. I haven't seen any actual report of this so I'm guessing if anything he just has soreness from getting back into working out, which is understandable. Quick also has tweets from yesterday talking about how he thinks Nurkic will be back in February.

Why's he carrying his own bags? Where's his rookie?

LIkely it's best to be conservative and worry more about him being ready by fall camp and also
likely the chances at a Whiteside trade to be nil.

Found an article. There isn't much said in regard to seriousness. It could just be general stuff within expectation for returning to full practice activity.

The quote from Quick: Well guys, it’s not good news. I’m trying to pin this down. The most I can pin down for you right now is that Nurkic had a calf strain in the moments after his return to the full-court practice and full-contact practice. His calf had a reaction to that. I don’t know if he’s practiced after that. I don’t know how serious it is. I saw him last night walking into the arena. He was walking fine, without a limp. But the last two games he has not come out to sit on the bench. I don’t want to set off alarms, but I can tell you that I have learned that he has suffered a calf strain. I don’t know if it’s on the left leg, which is where he broke the bones. I don’t know if it’s on his right leg. There has been a, I don’t even know if I can call it a setback, but he has had a reaction to his return to practice that is a little bit of a calf strain. Again, I’m trying to get more information and get some comments from the Blazers, but understandably they’ve been a little tight-lipped today.

That reads as pure speculation also.

Re: [Quick] Nurk has a calf-sprain after returning to practice
I wouldn't think a strained calf is all that surprising given he hasn't played for nearly a year. Getting back into the rigors of the NBA has to be quite different from just laying around all day or not doing too much because of a broken leg. That's why they work back into playing versus just jumping in. I saw he made the trip to LA so I wouldn't think there is too much to be worried about. I don't see him coming back until after the All Star break to begin with so he still has like 3 weeks.
Anybody remember when Kevin Duckworth and Wayne Cooper were both out for the Blazers back in 1990 (maybe 1991 or 1992, I don't remember for sure). The team was out warming up before the game and shortly before tipoff, here comes Duck and Coop walking out of the tunnel in their uniforms. They guys played and were huge in beating the Spurs that series (fairly sure it was the Spurs). It would be kind of awesome to do this again with Nurk, Collins & Skal. All three return for the same game. Man, the Rose Garden would erupt, just like it did when Duck & Coop walked out of the tunnel.

Re: [Quick] Nurk has a calf-sprain after returning to practice
I read there are three levels of calf strains; it was something like:
* 1 takes 7-10 days to heal
* 2 takes 3-6 weeks
* 3 takes 3-6 months
whatever it is will be a setback and prolong the time he's out. If the target date for return was the first game after the all-star break (which seems kind of what it was), then even the lowest level strain could push his return into March. And the first week of March was when Zach was supposed to be re-evaluated by the doctors. That means the season would be at least 60 games old before either return
also, it was around the all-star break that Skal was supposed to be re-evaluated
Portland has an extremely easy schedule in March & April, so it could be a busy time of good news....or not

his history makes him hard to believe credible
however, it's pretty clear Nurkic had a little setback. We haven't heard about him practicing again after his first 5-on-5 workout when Quick said he had a calf strain. And he wasn't at games when there was a rumor he was getting treatment, some kind of stimulus-therapy on the calf. Even a minor strain would set him back a week to 10 days. If he was scheduled to return right after the all-star break, this could push it into March. And chances are he'll be on a minutes restriction for the first few games after he returns
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
