Hawks, Rockets, Wolves Discuss Clint Capela, Robert Covington Three-Way Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Feb 4, 2020 1:52 pm

The Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets have discussed a three-way deal involving Clint Capela and Robert Covington.

The Wolves would have sent Covington to the Rockets while receiving a 2020 first round pick from the Brooklyn Nets via the Hawks with Atlanta acquiring Capela.

Minnesota is attempting to acquire enough assets to trade for D'Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors. The Wolves were offering Brooklyn's first round pick and its own first round pick in 2020 to the Warriors, but Golden State declined the offer.

The Warriors continue to insist they want to see Russell play with Stephen Curry before making any dramatic changes.

No Effin way do I give two top 10 picks for DLo....They are pushing me over the edge. Russell's D is worse than our LAST PLACE D.....Why give away our TOP defender for a BOTTOM defensive PG?....DONE!!!!
At worse draft two PG's and hope one works out.

The Timberwolves are weird.

KAT will be gone by the time one of your two rookie PGs pan out. Wolves need to win now, at least getting into the playoff. Unless you are trading your biggest asset and last piece of sure bet in KAT, you have to do something for him now. DLo is the best available bet.

Sure his D is bad, so is James Harden and many more lead PG who can't defend a lick. Not saying DLo is exactly Harden on offense, but he can score and pass at a high rate. He was an allstar who led a young Nets team to the playoff (6th seed, not even last; and beat PHILA for a playoff game) and only 23 years old. DLo is a legit star guard who can be built around in this league. As much as I love RoCo's D (sorta like a young iggudala), he will never be the franchise player that a team can build around. Just like nobody will trade Harden for Draymond Green straight up despite the latter being a great DPOY and runner up for years. Simple as that.

We won't make the PO's with or without Russ. If we dump Wiggins, then we could afford him. Max pay for 3 players that aren't all stars seem like a bunch of 12-14 round picks each year. KAT's gone anyway, why saddle ourselves with DLo too?

Also..."win now" is how we got stuck in this mess. Would rather draft wisely rather than rush into another bad marriage.

Where is the 2nd top 10 pick coming from? I thought it was wolves pick (top 10) and nets pick, likely in the teens

KAT is one of the best big in the game. Wiggins is soft like Charmin that's the problem. I'd be surprised if any team having KAT is willing to dump him just to hope for the best from the draft instead of building around him. A lot of the times when your team doesn't win, it has more to do with bad GM bad roster combination bad coaching rather than an individual player.

I have no idea why Wolves would trade away a great D player like RoCo. But DLo is pretty clutch and a Master at P&R. He can form a young big 3 with KAT/Wiggins, all 3 legit 20pt+ threats on the floor. While their D would suck, their offense likely will make up for it and get them in PO with some decent coaching. I can see why Wolves wanted DLo so bad. An available young star PG who can lead a team is not easy to come by.
