Embiid(30)/Horford(18)

Play Simmons/AL/Jo for as few minutes together as possible. Give Brett and this group one last run before the offseason. If they fall short of a Finals appearance, then it’s time to break it up.

Would that help our defense with Joelkafor?

I think the best solution is to find a two way stretch 4. If not, we have to start Ennis.

We then play the Celtics style defense that wing player heavy and doesnt rely so much on the center.

Is james ennis ever played at the 4? As a small ball 4?

Horford was never going to be optimal here. One of his best skills is passing and that involves him having the ball a lot in the post which was never going to happen with this team. And he is a center. We totally over-estimated his shooting skills. He is a good shooter when he picks his spots and shoots the shots he is most comfortable with which are the top of the key and the baseline and is wide open. He was not a guy meant to take a bunch of threes every game and be a primary court spacer.

Horford should be coming off the bench... but with that salary... it's only going to hurt his value going forward in a trade.

He was the Joel stopper playing the 5 at Boston... what were we thinking trying to make him a stretch 4 with Joel.

Horford was never a stopper of anyone. He was a cog in Brad Stevens' elite defensive scheme that required waves of excellent help defenders to make him look good.

This is not wide open, this is your "Modern NBA" style fantasies. You guys would like a center that does not get touches and just does the dirty job on defense.

Pretty much.

Al was great at defending Embiid because he knew how to not foul him and has a strong base but a lot of the real defense came in quick and sudden double teams from long wings. Same thing Marc Gasol does. Both guys are strong as **** and thus Embiid can't just barrel through them like he does to Towns and Drummond (not saying those two are weak; just that they haven't picked up some vet stuff yet and aren't used to not being the biggest and strongest...hell Embiid is quite similar too).

Al is just super miscast on this team....like everyone else lo.

Sorry but that’s the reality. You can make life easier by accepting it and you can make it harder by denying it.

We’re not completely going away from Biid at the post, it’s decreasing the frequency that leads to better floor spacing, ball movement and unlocks Ben.

Deny what exactly? to say Embiid has regressed defensively is one thing, to say he is like Okafor on defense is ridiculous man. We get it, you would like to have dat shiny modarn NBA team with an elite shot creator as a number 1 option and then all shooters around, with a garbage man as a center. Too bad your fantasies are just that.

Kork's advanced metrics always look much worse than his on-court play. Can't always trust the eye test I guess.

Shocker that JRich looked like a borderline all-star in Miami and a JAG here.

I am wondering whether the acquisition of Horford was a ploy to force Embiid out or they genuinely thought it is a good move.

I certainly wouldn't say he looked All Star level in Miami. He's played well at times here. Didn't he win player of the week at some point? Just seems like every time he gets things going he gets injured.

If they dont add a guard who can compliment Embiid(shoot the ball, get him easy shots) than i cant help but think its the latter.

Self quote!
With yesterday's moves & rumors of aquiring Morris...hopefully that moves Al to the bench. I think we all knew he'd eventually be a really expensive backup 5. I'm okay with it happening sooner than expected. He should be used like Toronto uses Ibaka...still a valuable piece.

I have no doubt AL can be a contributor here. He’ll never be worth the money we gave him, but he’s still productive enough to play 28-30 mpg off the bench.

As much as he doesn’t like to hear it, he’s a 5. Being a stretch 4 was never really his thing.
