Re: Woj: DLo to Minny for Wiggins
I missed one big item in that last post.... That 73 win team obviously had Iggy and Bogut. Those are the sort of players they need to add to their current team to get back in contention when Klay and Curry return.

Wiggins gives GS a position of need and is a legit 20pt scorer, he will be a 3rd option with all the spacing in the world. Wiggins is entering his prime.
Plus they get a 1st rd pick.
If Wiggins is getting his 17 shots it takes him to get his 20pts, GS is in even worse shape than most think. Best case scenario Wiggins gets put into the Harrison Barnes role of 9-10 shots a game and he excels in that role. Do I think that will happen? No, there are no signs that his game will benefit from such a role.
The only thing I can think of is GS is hoping they can just hand Wiggins the ball and allow him to jack up 20+ shots a game and hopefully he gets hot and maybe somehow he improves his trade value for the summer. Wiggins is a worse version of Barnes.

Just curious about what you thought about him on the Nets last season?

yo I haven't watched the warriors this year due to injuries, was Russell THAT bad this year? Why would such a smart team trade for wiggins? I'm seriously asking as I don't understand this trade.

Re: Woj: DLo to Minny for Wiggins
As a Warriors fan, I am surprised to see so much negativity aimed at them for this move.
Had they not traded for DiLo, they would have lost Durant's cap-hold. The Warriors are WAY over the cap-- had Durant just walked, they would have simply lost the ability to take on roughly 30 million in contracts. Overpaying DiLo in a S&T preserved that cap-hold.
DiLo is not a bad player, but he is a not max player and he was never a good fit on the Warriors. The Warriors need to get younger, bigger, and more athletic without any cap space to chase FA's-- all they can do is acquire talent through trades and the draft.
So, what have they done this year thus far after this trade?
-Probably secured themselves a top 3ish pick in this draft and rested Curry, Klay, and Green.
-Probably secured themselves a top 10 pick next year or better the year after; unless, of course, you think building around a ball dominant, lowish-medium efficient volume scorer and a big who plays no defense is a recipe for anything better than .500ish in the WC the next 2 years.
-Traded said ball dominant combo-guard for a Rudy Gay clone who, while massively overpaid, plays a position they need depth and athleticism at. They're not hoping they can get Durant or Iguodala out of Wiggins with their culture, they're hoping they can get Harrison Barnes-- a goal that doesn't seem terribly unrealistic to me. He was a halfway decent fit on their roster few years, after all.
I think some people here overestimated DiLo's value, and are dramatically undervaluing that Minny FRP in '21 or '22.

From what I saw, pretty much the same of what I think of him now. Good player on offense but I have never really liked his defense. On a team like 2008-2010 Celtics if Russell accepted his role and didn't try to do too much on offense and deferred to KG/PP/RA, he would have been fine in place of Rondo. A lot less defense and not as good of a passer but a player who clearly was the much better shooter/scorer than Rondo.

And even if Wiggins becomes good, this is bad value for the Warriors, they could have gotten more. D'lo may not have huge value, but he's a positive asset, while Wiggins is widely regarded as a negative asset. The difference is only a protected first? I could have accepted the deal with something like 3 firsts with light protection, but this way it is ridiculous.
Also, Spellman is good, no idea why they wanted to give him up. At least they managed to include Evans who is absolutely terrible.
Wiggins has never had good teammates other than a guy who needs to be fed in the paint in KAT , he will fit into the system in GSW easily and should have no problem being motivated when he believes it equates to winning. Dlo is not worth more than Wiggins and a first.
Got me there... Had a teammate that plays the same position and stole his usage...lol irrelevant info

Add a potential top 5 pick this coming draft, and it's not looking all that bad.
Why so serious?

Re: Woj: DLo to Minny for Wiggins
The fact that he will be asked to play the Harrison Barnes of 2020 ain't that much to ask.
Warriors were set even before this trade. Steph/klay/Green would habe been the core no matter what.
They needed one guy via trade and one good pick.
Warriors have the luxury of risking with Wiggins, because they have already won. Multiple times, so no rush.
Wiggins can learn a lot with clearly better teammates and coaches.
I like it for GS.
I like it very much for the Wolves. If only they hadn't traded covington. Oh well, can't have it all i guess.
Good trade in general.

That's my thought process as well.
I don't think Russell was ever a good fit on the Warriors

Call me crazy but Wiggins is better than Barnes. Maybe not by a ton, but he’s better. He can pass and even handle it better than Barnes. His FT shooting is Wiggins’ Achilles heal. To me it’s not his field goal shooting that hurts him most. His efficiency would be pretty damn good if he could shoot 7-10% better from the line. He misses many FTs with the game on the line. But he won’t be in that role in Golden State.

Better hope Wiggins can improve defensively and shoot . Hope Wiggins looks good with klay and curry

Gonna be interesting to watch. Either Wiggins steps up his effort, or Draymond breaks him mentally. I'm hoping for the former, but I would never bet on Wiggins.
its put up or shut for Wiggins now. will be interesting to watch.

Wiggins is terrible defensively and a much worse shooter.

I wouldn't say he was a huuuge asset, but an asset nonetheless. Rather than lose KD and get nothing in return, its not much, but its something.
I'll tell you one thing though, it was an awesome gesture by the Warriors to accommodate both KAT and D-Lo, knowing that they are good friends. Take that gift Minny and at least do something worthwhile with those 2. Don't squander what you got.

Re: Woj: DLo to Minny for Wiggins
I like this move for Warriors, those picks are good but they must be looking at Wiggins as a prospect and plan to make him a better player. The picks they got can be traded for a good player if they don't hold onto them. Look what they did for McGee, so they can make players better. They likely will miss playoffs but will use the rest of this season to teach Wiggins a few pointers going into next season. I like the move, risky yes but Wiggins has upside.
