Wiggins and Warriors - get on the record.

Post#1 » by ILOVEIT » Fri Feb 7, 2020 2:37 am

Let's get us all on the record.

I believe that Wiggins is an upgrade over Barnes and think the Warriors (if healthy) will be back in WCF and hopefully championship.

What do the rest of you think?

5th seed in the west is somewhere I will put it. If we play less Wiggins we may get a 3rd and 2nd round

just for reference, Jazz 5th seed is putting up Off Rtg: 111.9 (9th of 30) Def Rtg: 107.9 (8th of 30). We are not topping that, especially on the defensive end

WCF for sure. Lakers aren't a threat with no depth and Lebron being a year older. Houston is Houston, so I think Clippers are the only team in the West I'll be worried about.

With the standard at WCF or Finals... i answered "no".
I do think we'll have a good regular season and make the playoffs though. I can't believe i'm saying it, but I think i'm with cpower and have us as a 5th seed. Though I don't think a higher seed is out of the question... defense matters more in the playoffs - where I think we will struggle.

Denver Jazz are also comparable if not better. Mavs could be the next powerhouse. Our situation is not really depends on Wiggins, he will be like 5th best player on this team. We need to bring Looney to his old form and sign a few veteran players. If we get Marc Gasol or equal we can still get out of the west.

Wiggins sort of replaces Barnes - Wiggins is a SG/SF while Barnes is a SF/PF but for general quality they're similar. The problem is that GS needed to replace 2015 Iggy to be an elite team. Barnes was the easy part.

If Curry/Klay/Draymond are all back at peak levels this could be a 55-60 win team next season that could make a conference final. If they're somewhat off (due to age/injury recovery) then a 45-50 win team is more likely - this is really what I'd expect. If they're somewhat off and missing a bunch of time with injuries then it's a 35-40 win lotto team.

Alot left to fill out from here to next year but the way I read the question is "Does Wiggins push the W's back to contention" so my answer would be a strong hell naw.

Harrison Barnes averaged 12 ppg in his best year with the Warriors. If Wiggins averaged 15-18 ppg (have to account for some Steph, Klay, Dray decline) and gave a little effort on defense, I think the Warriors will be solid.

Bench needs to be filled out, preferably with seasoned vets, as the team skews young at the moment and we don't have any David West/Iggy/Shaun Livingston/Barbosa role player type vets on the current roster.

WCF is not out of the question if we solidify the depth.

Efficiency on offense should increase. Depends if he can be a average level defender.

Perfect get and the picks are just icing. Toscano Anderson replaces Iggy

Without an aircraft carrier big, or defensive genius big like Bogut, I don't see anything close to a title.

We need a legit defensive stud.

I think that 55 wins is doable, and I would call that a success next season. (Most teams would call that a great season.) I don't think they contend again for at least another year, as most of the players basically don't know each other yet, and they have no real vets beyond the core five (I'm including Looney). Championships don't happen overnight. It takes a while to assemble the pieces and then get everybody playing the way you want -- especially on defense.

I don't believe so. It is a numbers game. Wins/Losses. And this team has a lot of conditions "ifs" to occur for that to happen.
Guys coming back from injury- how will they perform..
Age ??
Depleted roster..
Cap used on Wiggins where there seems to be a lot of "ifs". Complaints from T'Wolves fans about his off the ball play, shot selection etc.

This is not the same team that attracted free agents like in the past. There are a lot of attractive teams out there with out so many questions linked to them.

I hope I eat crow and the FO does something special. But I am not seeing the same kind of moves they did when this group took over. And I kind of tipped over on this.

I get all the points made in other thread around D'Lo not really impressing during his time. Better fit, Repeater tax implication yada yada. But its a series of moves in anticipation of the future I am not seeing the same insight. Please be wrong...

Warriors still need 2 wing defenders and another rim protector to make it to Conf Finals

Depends who we will get in the draft this year. But with the current roster plus Klay and Curry, we will be lucky to get 55 W's next year. The West will be much stronger next year, LAC and Den are the top 2, and every freaking teams other than Sacto will improve next year.
